OT - Funny message boards

This is no surprise, but if you guys want a laugh, go to Mizzou's fan message board during a game.

TigerBoard.com :: Basketball Board

It is hilarious to read. They think every call that goes against them is a crap call. They're convinced that Big 12 officials are exclusively bad and are out to get them every game.

BktBallRef Thu Mar 12, 2009 11:19pm

Reminds me of a basketball official who has the same opinion of NFL officials.

Pot, kettle. Kettle, pot.

Hmmm, except for the fact that I'm not a fan of either team that was in the Super Bowl.

I will admit that calling NFL officials incompetent as a whole wasn't called for. I do maintain that football officiating is the worst of the three major sports, pro and college included.

Should have stopped there.

Every fan is convinced that they have the worst officials in their conference and that their team gets the worst of it in their conference. That's part of the definition of fan.

All that just makes you a fanboy.

Mr. ZM1983

You have come to the wrong place to criticize officials at the D1 level. And I take offense because one of those officials got me started into officiating in Jr. High and High School. In fact, he gave me most my games in my first and second year. If you come to be bring down officiating, I suggest reading your NFHS officials manuel for the first pages and you will learn what it takes to be a official.

He thinks that only applies to the sport he officiates. Other sports are fair game.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't the FED have the same code of ethics to all officials in all sports?

Adam Fri Mar 13, 2009 09:59am

I would think so. To me, it's more of a character thing....

budjones05 Fri Mar 13, 2009 10:02am

Snagwell, you took the words out of me.

Where did I criticize any particular D1 official? I just gave an opinion that football is the worst of the three major sports.

He never said you criticized "a" D1 official. Frankly, that would be better than a blanket statement such as yours.

Your insistence that you are right in spite of being shot down pretty easily on the football side is enlightening.

To say any sport is the worst when your perspective of that sport is only as a fan is not very credible.

Have you officiated a NFL football game before? Or any level of football either? My opinion is even if you never officiated a sport before, hold your self to a level that doesn't belittle officiating as a whole. We expect this from a fan off the street, but not one of our own.

Yes. Not a high level but I have done it.

I'm not belittling officiating as a whole, but I guess that's your opinion.

I was "shot down"? Others didn't agree with my opinions about calls in the Super Bowl. I guess if that means I was shot down then so be it.

Then he gets on his high horse about Bobby Knight and suggest he is clueless in the sport he officiating. But then goes on rants about a sport he does not officiate.

Peace

By shot down, I simply mean they informed you how the calls, while perhaps debatable, were not awful. Who do you think I should give credence to, one or two guys who don't officiate football telling me football officials are the worst of the major sports, or football officials who tell me the calls the first guy bases his opinion on aren't that bad?

No, just football officials.

I was a line judge in high school for our volleyball games. I was also a side judge (or something like that) for soccer while in college.

I've done it, but you won't see me claiming anything about soccer or volleyball officiating; because I don't know nearly enough to do it.

BTW, I'm not particularly proud of my association with metric football.

If you said the most difficult to call, you might maintain some credibility.

Youth level. I never claimed to be a great football official, but I have been around it enough and played it at a high enough level to know quite a bit about it.

I don't know if it's the most difficult to call. I think basketball is probably the most difficult out of the three major sports. I think baseball is the best officiated, followed by basketball, then football. Baseball is also probably the easiest of the three though.

I don't know if this is true at all, but are NFL officials as a whole older than those in other professional sports? Does it usually take longer to move up in football so even the "newer" NFL guys are older on average?

The game maybe. The rules and philosophies? Not so much.

We've already been over this, but I'll say it again: A lot of the stuff I was talking about wasn't because of rules knowledge or lack thereof.

Your lack of understanding of what constitutes both holding and pass interference would indicate otherwise.

OK, I'm done tilting at windmills.

Careful, or M&M will post an image for you.

Welpe Fri Mar 13, 2009 11:54am

Oh...typo. I think it'd be mighty difficult to tile a windmill though it'd be worth a shot.

I think images would be OK, this thread was circling the drain when it started. :D
