Baby Needs A New Pair Of Shoes ...

Here in Connecticut, all regular season, and conference/league championships ended last week. Girls started state tournament games last week. Boys will start state tournament games this week. New twist this year. State finals for both boys, and girls, in all classes (school size), will be held at the Mohegan Sun Casino, in the 10,000 seat Mohegan Sun Arena, home of the WNBA Connecticut Sun.

All six classes are down to final 8 and state championships occur across the state next Wed - Sat.

I worked my final game of year in Sub state final last night.

The next two weekends will be the Boy's State Finals. This weekend coming up is the 1A-2A Finals. The following week the 3A-4A State Finals. So there is still some basketball to play.

Peace

JugglingCanuck: We're all talking about state finals, and then you come along, just to show off, and talk about provincial finals.

Which definition of provincial are you referring to:
Of or relating to a province.
Of or characteristic of people from the provinces; not fashionable or sophisticated.
Limited in perspective; narrow and self-centered.

(Thanks for the Stethoscope video (YouTube - Stethoscope). Great for Lent. I've passed it on to many of my friends, including clergy, and family.)

Provincial would be me when referring to "not fashionable". :)

Ontario has 4 levels of ball: 1A to 4A. Two cities on opposite ends of the province are Ottawa and Windsor. Ottawa was 3A and Windsor 4A. :D Those cities are about 9 hours apart. Too bad for those coaches wishing to scout both tournaments: they'll need extra help this year.

Also, YW for the vid.

Texas girls' state tourney was this weekend. Boys is next. We've got some camps and other tournaments/leagues (non-school related) starting pretty soon after that, but other than a couple of those, I'm enjoying the down time and starting to think football.

zebra44 Sun Mar 08, 2009 07:43pm

Michigan's Boy's District play starts this week, also Girl's Regionals are this week.(Different nights). The tourney is staggered by a week.

Boys (4 Divisions) play Thur-Sat the following weekend.

However, the state athletic association (WIAA) has had a cow (pun intended) about broadcasting rights. They have even went as far as to claim that the athletes are "employees" of the WIAA.

NV played it's State tournament in Vegas this year. All of the championship games for both boys and girls were held at the Orleans Arena on the same floor that the WCC is using this week for its conference tournament. If you check ESPN and ESPN2 this week you can get a look at the venue.

PA, all classes/both genders played first round of state playoffs on Friday/Saturday, so now all are down to 16 teams. Next round Tuesday/Wednesday, quarters Friday/Saturday, semis Mar 17/18 and finals Mar 20/21 at the Bryce Jordan Center in State College (Penn State University).

I don't see in the articles where they claim the athletes are "employees" of the WIAA.

Nebraska has had their boys and girls state championship games televised for many years now, on NETV (the PBS affiliate) and the CBS affiliate in Lincoln (the two stations partner to provide the televising manpower, pay for the broadcasting rights, and to air the games across the state since the CBS affiliate doesn't go statewide).

Iowa does it differently because they have separate associations for the girls and for the boys. The boys association sold the rights to cover the finals to a broadcasting company, who then sells the right to show the games to various television stations. I heard that some parts of Iowa are not able to receive the games unless they view the pay-per-view on the internet. I'm not sure how the girls association does it, but I'm sure it's a similar deal.

This is my favorite time of the year in Illinois(we coined the phrase March Madness by the way) Sectional for boys are this week with some great matchups.

A little controversy this year as the player of the year Jereme Richmond, who committed to Illinois as a freshman received his second tech in a playoff game over the weekend for hanging on the rim He is ineligible for next game against another powerhouse.

The school protested the call but the state upheld it as well they should have.

Bravo...a state upholding their sportsmanship rules when it comes to ejections. This brings up a question which I will pose in another thread.
