Fans???

I was at a game 2 nights ago and the home team administration came over to 2 fans in front of me and told them that they were not allowed to stand and yell during the game. ( By order of the officials ). I heard everything. The guy said " That's a crappy call" and the lady said " you got to make the same call at both ends"

And yes, they were standing when making these remarks. Are these officials thin skinned or are they right?

Did it occur to you that this was done totally by the home administration and not the official?

Just because there was a conversation with the official and the game management, does not mean the official told them what to say or not say to those fans.

Peace

Could be a house policy. And a strict one at that.

My provincial basketball authority has a zero tolerance policy. I rarely have to enact it, but it is there if it's needed. Maybe this game had something similar?

But in general, I would say that the officials are on the thin-skinned side of the equation. :)

Agreed. It's always possible the admin heard them, didn't like what they said and decided to take matters his own hands adding the "Officials said so," to the end so the fans couldn't argue with him.

However, if the officials did tell the admin to take care of it and that is all the fans actually said then yes, I would say they are a little thin skinned.

I agree that if this direction actually came from the officials, they did not react properly. Instead, one of them should have gone over to the two people and knocked their heads together. I think this is the responsibility of the R.

Can the R designate a head knocker just like who tosses the opening jump ball?

Yes, but I think they're called "head bangers". In fact, here's the two umpires who were working that game.

He said, " The officials asked me to come over and tell you that you can not stand and yell about a call, you may stand and cheer your team on"

Once again, how do you know that is what the official told game management? In many situations if and when I have brought something to the attention of game management, I do not have to tell them anything more than where the problem is located.

Just because you heard what the person claimed the official said does not mean that is something the officials actually said. I only say this because I was accused of ejecting fans when I was not at all responsible. It is possible that the person told them what the official said when only the official might have brought something to their attention.

All I know is what I heard nothing more.

That is correct. But you posted an accusation about the official and you only have knowledge of part of the situation. That sounds a little unfair if you ask me.

Peace

I'm looking but I don't see where he asked you whether it was fair or not. :D

And I was not giving my opinion based on what he wanted to hear either. There is a funny thing that happens when you post anything on a discussion board. People have the right to give you their opinion whether you like it or not. ;)
