Exclamation The New Rule I Learned Today

(8th Grade Boys)

{sarcasm} A head coach is allowed to stand at half court to coach so long as he or she does not cross the center line. {/sarcasm}

I was impressed that the guy did know enough to call a time out to correct what he thought was an error. Too bad the 30 second time out he wanted became full when there was no error to correct.

Weird, I'll bet maybe a half a dozen times this yr during Rec Ball I've had to "move" the scorers table and team benches/chairs to prevent "the half-court coach."

I get to a game and notice whoever set things up for the first game put the scorers table five or so feet to one side of the Division Line. Therefore, pushing one team/coach way down toward the Endline and allowing one team/coach to be right at the Division Line.....and nobody noticed?

The funniest thing I ever observed, actually, was at a college level summer league game. I was the unofficial coach for our college alumni team in the league and during one of our games, the opposing team's coach crossed half court and coached his team in our coaching box.

I figured I'd return the favor and the host school's coach (who also refreed a majority of the games) told me to get back in my box. I told him that was fine, but he better tell the other coach to stop tap-dancing his way into my box. He did say something to the opposing coach because the opposing coach gave me a very dirty look afterwards. I either smiled at him or shrugged my shoulders.

Do you have any authority to dictate how game management sets up their site?

You might want to check 1.13.1.

I "learned" in a men's league game a couple of nights ago that if a player has better rebounding position that he's allowed to push the player behind him back 3-4 feet to get a rebound that is going over his head.

Well, maybe I didn't learn it because I called a foul on him to which he gave me a quizzical look and said, "You need to learn the rules!" He then turned walked away and said quite loudly, "That's a bulls*** call."

I thought to myself, if he didn't like that call maybe he'll like this one better... WHACK!!!!

Maybe he got that mixed up with going after a ball in the advantageous position.
