3-man mechanics tutorial?

In my intramural league, we do 2-man officiating all through the regular season and playoffs. For the championship games, we use a three man crew.

I might be selected to do a championship game, so does anyone know where I can find an introduction of sorts to 3 man mechanics?

Are you saying that all games all year are two man, and that three man will be used for championship games only? You would be calling three man for the first time in one of these games? Is this true of all officials in your league?

I suggest that the switch to three man in this case might be counterproductive.

You got it right. Doesn't make sense to me either. But it is what it is. I've never worked 3-man. Do you know a good website I could visit?

You can't learn it jsut from watching a presentation.

Especially for intramurals, I'd greatly simplify it -- L goes to where he needs to go to watch the post and has the lane area as Primary. T and C remain the same (no rotation), and have primary coverage areas on their half of the court (yes, that means the lane is "dual coverage).

Go table side on fouls, and balance the court on dead balls.

If you get that much right, you'll be way ahead for working your first 3-person game.

I agree with Bob! I've worked intramural tourneys before (when I was an undergrad) and they did the same thing. From my experience (at two different schools), they add a third man because the championships are typically at the school's NCAA-length courts. That's a lot of area to cover for people that are used to smaller courts.

As Bob suggested, just add a third person and snub the rotations.

Thanks guys, and jdmara, you are correct that we play our championships on Branch McCraken Court at Assembly Hall. It's definitely an adjustment from our courts we normally play on. I played on the big court last year and I was so out of breath within the first 5 minutes!
