One is enough today... no such luck.

Just finished a very enjoyable girls 4A district playoff game. I am now on the couch, watching a game on TV and just about asleep. In about 3 hours, I am scheduled to do a men's junior college. I am just way too relaxed. Someone go take my place on my game tonight!!!!! :)

This kind of "double dip" would get me in big trouble with my college association. Interesting to see how things are different around the country.

WAKE UP so you don't get yourself in trouble.

I've heard this before and I just don't get it. What I do in the early afternoon before I have a night game is really nobody's business as long as I can do the job. If I can't do the job in the evening game, it's really not important why I can't, just that I can't.

What part of "independent contractors" do these associations not understand? Restricting your trade earlier in the day makes it sound more like an employer/employee relationship to me.

Good point about being an independent contractor. My guess is that it is assumed that if you have a game earlier in the day, you simply will not be at 100% for the second game. Just to add a bit of info, if I do the college game first, then it's ok for me to a high school game later in the day.

Of course. Many assignors have this all about "me! me! me!" attitude about them.

Frankly, it's silly. I've worked 2 varsity games in a day over Christmas. Come to think of it, I've worked 3 (afternoon and 2 evening). No problems, actually I was a bit more loosened up at the opening tip than usual because of the exercise and it's why I usually do 40 minutes of elliptical work before I leave for a game.

Our state forbids us from working another HS game when we have an assigned playoff game the same day. Someone not knowing this almost cost him a state tournament game. Of course, it took someone fairly slimy turning him in (another official) for this to become known.

I woke up and did the game. Went fine.

No such rules around here. What I do when I'm not working for my college assignor is none of his business as long as it doesn't affect my performance.

As it should be, quite frankly.

Good ol' WIAA... And we have a number of officials and ADs in my area that would eagerly notify the WIAA if they were aware of an official working "outside the lines."

Officials out here are expected to work 2 varsity games per night. G and B go back to back.

I used to do it in Tennessee (Knoxville). GV/BV, $60 total. 1994-1997. I couldn't believe how little we were paid, less than football guys working one varsity game.

Re: Inflation it has gotten worse. 3 Man Crew GV/BV $80, Football 5 man crew $85, Volleyball $95 to stand still.
Fees set through the 09/10 season.

1 football game pays more than a varsity basketball DH. That's priceless.

Back then, the ECO made just about as much as I did working basketball.
