Hesitancy isn't good

But sometimes it just happens. Girls JV.

I'm C. A1 is making a drive to the basket. She takes out B1 on her way. Call could go either way but I decide to go with block. But, dammit, I've lost the number of B1. I have no choice but to ask my partners. Since she's there, I ask L if she also had block. She did.

I go to report the foul. B coach yells, "She (A1) initiated the contact. I look at him, and say, "I confirmed with my partners." I then report the foul.

THEN as I turn he yells, "Know the rules!" I start to ignore, then decide I can't. I T him.

He told my partner after I went to C from there to get away that I should have warned him.

Would you have done the same? Or

Would it have mattered that there were 28 seconds left in a one point game?

Who is guilty here? The COACH.

Who chose to be the idiot? The COACH

Who hurt their team's chance to win? The COACH

Who is sitting when my whistle blows? The COACH

Obviously this coach needs a lesson in sportsmanship, to condone is to approve. This is not a "warning" situation (in my book).

Good job getting the call right.

Good job pausing to assess the coach's conduct.

Good job whacking.

Get this every time, no matter the situation. I don't care how loud coach says it.

Good T

You couldn't have handled it any better Rita. Nice job in giving yourself a sec.to think about giving him the T before you whacked him.

Nothing wrong with a patient whistle...especially if you're serving "T".

I'm not questioning your 'T' b/c I wasn't there so I defer to your judgement. But I wouldn't have use the above verbiage. Makes it sound like you discussed the play with your partner then decided on the call. Maybe "That's not how I saw it Coach" or "My partner had the same call as me" would have been better.

Warning?

The coach wants a warning for questioning/insulting the official's knowledge of the rules?

Sounds like he needs to "know the rules."

No warning for that -- consider it, maybe -- but definitely a T in the end.

Agreed...

Late in a close game I might allow a little longer conversation from coaches and players but as soon as they call me out (especially after a good call) with a dumb comment that undermines my control I've got a T..

Nice call

#1, I wouldn't have responded to this. It's a comment, ignore it.

#2, of course she initiated the contact. It's a damn block/charge. But it's not about who initiated contact (WHAT A STUPID COMMENT!), it's about whether the defender had LGP or not.

Absolutely not. Nor would it have mattered if there was one second left in a 28 point game. It's the coach's behavior that dictates your action, not the game situation.

You're just saying that because the OP didn't go to OT.

That's funny.
