Exclamation I hope the coach didn't hear this

Last night we had a visiting coach who, in all seriousness, looked like he was close to 300 pounds, all stomach. He stood up all game because he had trouble fitting into the folding chairs which were the benches. He was somewhat chippy, mostly because his team was getting blown out, however we were calling tons of fouls against the other team. His team was in double bonus in the first half and again before the end of the third quarter! It didn't matter because they hit about 5% of their fouls shots. Finally, my partner T's him up and the guy was most upset that he had to try to fit into a chair from that point on.

There was a timeout right after the T and I approached my partner to ask what the guy said to him to get whacked. We were about 20 feet away from their bench. My partner told me and then said, rather loudly, "I may not be calling a good game, but at least I don't have to buy my clothes from Omar the tent maker." The coach was in my line of vision and I saw him jerk his head around toward us. It appeared to me that he heard that comment. But then he immediately turned back toward his team, so maybe he didn't.

Anyway, he never said anything about it. Fortunately, I was able to control myself and didn't laugh out loud. Oh yeah, home team won by almost 40.

Pretty unprofessional in my opinion.

Very unprofessional remark, especially on the floor. You can say it in the confines of the locker room for all I care. There was a time we had an oversized women's coach (sounds almost like the same guy in the OP...) here at the college I teach at, who got T'd up when he showed displeasure at a call, and jumped up and down a couple of times, with his momentum carrying him about a foot onto the floor. I was able to join the officials in the locker room after the game, because I knew all three of them, and the one who T'd up the coach said he could feel the ground shaking. Oh boy.

Agreed, extremely unprofessional and poor form.

If you remember the Alaska incident, where the locker room was bugged, even the locker room isn't a safe place to say anything inappropriate. JMO.

Exactly what I was thinking. Unprofessional that the guy said this.

Whatever the coach said could not have been as bad as what HE said.

I can tell you from experience that the locker room is not a safe haven. Any public place is not safe for you to say things that will come back to haunt you. We are expected to be professional at all times.

In addition, looks like the coach was the 'professional' in this situation, not responding the personal insult by the 'official'.

I agree, the comment may raise a smile but unprofessional to say on court.

If the coach was so unprofessional about your partners appearance he may pick up a 'T' if it was loud enough to be heard.

Well, that's your fault for not putting in the "no refund" clause.

Here in Oregon, that's automatic in such a contract. I had my buddies in the state legislature (and I have quite a few) pass that one.
