GF last night. This was one of those feel-good games. Intensely fought by the girls, not particularly good shooters, but they all played hard and as girls are more apt to do, help each other up after some hard fouls.

Late 2nd quarter, Blue gets about 3 or 4 rebounds and keeps putting up shots. Some parent for home screams "3 seconds!" I chuckle to myself. White gets the rebound and takes a shot from 75 feet away. There were 45 seconds left in the quarter.

Other than that, the fans were pretty knowledgable, which was nice. Although I did have another 2nd quarter play that made me laugh.
Blue has the ball right in front of me as lead, and she gives a slight shove to her defender, knocking her back about a step. Blue then picks up her dribble and passes it off. I saw it, and decided to just warn Blue verbally since she didn't take advantage of it.

I hear mom in the stands, "He was staring right at her when she pushed her!" That blue player ended up fouling out anyway.

Something to think about. . .

Is there not an advantage gained by knocking the defender away, and though not shooting, having the ability to make a clear pass to a teammate, without defensive pressure?

I'm debating that after the fact. I probably should have called it, in hind sight. That said, she had her back to the defender and passed out to the wing, after the defender re-closed the distance.

My hindsight is always 20/20. I'm sure that the same is true for many officials. This is a tough job, but somebody's got to do it.
