 MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) - A competitive basketball game has turned into a public relations nightmare after a brawl at Alabama State University. WSFA 12 Sports reporter Derek Steyer was covering the Alabama High School Athletic Association Central Region Basketball Tournament hosted by ASU when a fight broke out on the court between players from Carver High School and Valley High School. Carver High School was winning the game 52-37 and during the fourth quarter, around 3:45pm, a foul was called. Several players began pushing each other. Shoving and punching by the teammates escalated when fans came out of the stands and onto the court. One player wearing Valley's orange shorts, though not identified, could be seen rushing down the court, shirtless, throwing punches at others. Many other players and fans were on the ground being kicked and punched as police officers tried to regain control of the Acadome. |
That P.R. guy for the university must be a politician. According to him everything was just fine. What B.S.!

Wow, "over enthusiastic high school basketball fans". I bet that PR guy can sell a car like its going out of style. Amazing. I love the question about there being enough security. "There was because no one was hurt"...nevermind the 40-50 people running around the court punching and kicking. Just wow...

Truly a sad display. :(
The fighting in the stands reminded me of the NBA game at Detroit. |

Given what occurred, having these guys on the team would be more appropriate. :D

Mario "Salami" Pettrino is wearing an illegal wristband. He should not be allowed on the Forum, unless he removes it. Is Curtis "C.J." Jackson wearing headwear for a religious reason?

MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) - The Alabama Athletic Association has eliminated both the G.W. Carver and Valley high schools' boys basketball teams from the AHSAA Central Region Basketball Tournament. Both teams are now on "restrictive probation" and officials are calling the game a "double forfeit". Kenneth Mullinax, Director of University Relations for Alabama State University, said "...no one was hurt. We had some over enthusiastic high school fans who got involved in an altercation..." <end> I found a picture of Ken Mullinax. http://httpwww.xmfan.com/files/baghdad-bob_187.jpg |
