Best way to...

Keep shoes and gym bag smelling ok? I take my shoes off from a night of work and I nearly pass out.

Any tricks of the trade?

Have better smelling feet. :D

I store a brick of plutonium in my bag. It keeps everything smelling nice and fresh. Plus - I can tell if someone has been in my bag. I just look to see if anyone is glowing.

Nevadaref Tue Feb 17, 2009 12:48am

And keep your nose out of your shoes. ;)

dahoopref Tue Feb 17, 2009 01:02am

These work pretty good.

If you don't have these, a scented dryer sheet works as a substitution but not as good as sneakerballs.

In light of some recent posts, maybe Padgett would fax you a prescription.

I'm guessing that the first time you wore these shoes, fresh out of the box, they didn't stink when you took them off. What makes athletic shoes stink after you wear them is the bacteria that grow. When the shoes sit around between wearings, they dry out and the bacteria go inactive, but once you put them on and start sweating again, those little cuties wake up again. A couple hours of the high life, and they really can produce a stink.

Cheaper shoes absorb and hold more sweat, so they also give the bacteria more to grow on for every wearing.

The best solution, I've found, is to use some sort of disinfectant in the shoes after every wearing. A basic Lysol type spray is just fine. My teenagers have always done this, and it works great.

Hmmmm...interesting. I think I'll donate my shoes to the biology department here at the college during the off-season so they can swab the bacteria and culture them for examination. Maybe then we'll know why we stink up our shoes.

A good solution I've used is take a dryer sheet, and put one in each shoe. It pulls the odor and moisture out of your shoes.

Instead, I simply chose to stop perspiring.

Welpe Tue Feb 17, 2009 12:39pm

What, Juulie said. Lysol and some cedar shoe trees should help.

I keep the rosen bags that come with new stuff and put them in my bag. These help dry every thing quickly by absorbing any moisture.

It works great in my kids Hockey bag as well. And the dryer sheets keep them smelling fresh as well.

And dryer sheets inside your football hat are a great way to keep the bugs away while officiating.

Restaurant package, not for resale.

Or just chew on a piece of galvanized metal. "Tasty too. Tastes just like candy" (Lucille Ball, "I Love Lucy")

He's been doing that for quite some time! Many of them are funny or clever, etc.

I find that the shoes I work in (for my day job) don't smell. I determined that this is because I only walk at work (I am in sales).

Therefore, I decided that I would only walk on the basketball court. My referee shoes smell just fine......:D
