Last game of the season

Have my last game of the season this Friday night, which is the last night of HS boys regular season here. It's been a real good season this year, but can't say that I am sad to see it come to an end. Looking forward to a month off and then its off the the soccer pitch for a full HS girls season.

Say it Ain't so.....

I am blessed with a few more weeks of hoops action, but just the thought of an end to the season brings bittersweet emotion.

I too have a Spring soccer schedule, but it's not nearly as exhilarating as hoops.

Ya, I'm from Illinois and I never understood that either. The only reasoning I can think of is some, maybe alot of schools play soccer on the same field as they do football. 3 sports on one field in one season is alot to handle for a natural grass field. I think that's why alot of schools are going to the fake stuff...sure it may be expensive, but there's not a ton of maintenance that goes in afterwards.

Actually field turf is much cheaper when you consider how long it lasts and what you do not have to worry about in maintenance like watering or soil and seeds to keep growing grass.

I think the main reason that soccer is played in two different seasons is mainly the fact you would not have that many officials to cover the sport adequately if both genders played at the same time. The same thing goes for volleyball. And not many schools play soccer in this state as compared to some other sports.

It makes perfect since to me.

Peace

Missouri plays boys soccer in the fall and girls in the spring as well. They might also do it because both the boys and girls have the same coach. I know of quite a few large schools around here that are like that.

My last basketball game is February 26th and baseball starts the last week of March, so the little break will be nice.

Not an official answer....

I think there are a number of things that influence the choice to schedule girls soccer in the Spring season:

- 1 Lack of officials
- 2 Lack of facilities
- 3 Multi-sport athletes
- 4 Title IX
- 5 Other influences

Not really sure why the decision was made.

We're starting girl's soccer here on March 5. Brrr.

I've got two more BB games, then working a soccer tournament in two weeks.

Then onto the pitch for the spring, summer and fall.

I am glad to hear there are several other Referees that do both Soccer and Basketball. We have ~280 Basketball referees in our association and only 3 of us do Soccer.

I have a Sub-State Basketball game Thursday afternoon and will then have to high tail it to get to my first Boys Soccer match of the season that evening. I will need to invoke the spirit of MTD to prevent overtime screwing up my travel time.

Same thing for volleyball, and swimming, here in the Constitution State. Different genders, different seasons. This will eventually lead to lawsuits, according to our state high school sports governing body. As it is right now, girls are allowed to swim with boys teams to take advantage of two seasons of competition per school year, or to swim with the boys while participating in another season with another girls sport.

I'd say Rut's right about the number of officials... and add in the number of girls who play both VB and soccer... and often the boys coach is also the girls coach... and lots of other stuff.
