Shirt Tucked In
 

Do any of you use anything to keep your shirts tucked in? I sometimes wear shorts, and sometimes don't use anything.

I have both kinds of rubber belts. One is the rubber with the holes in it. The other is the one with neoprene and velcro. I like the latter much better. If I don't use them my shirts come untucked and it really bothers me.

My pants. :D

Get an extra long shirt, and then use garters to hold it down to your knee socks -- added benefit, keeps your socks up! I'm not saying I do this. Just a suggestion.

I too piced up the neoprene with velcro this yr and like it much better than the rubber belt with holes. That being said, I have been known to still do "the Welmer" every now and again to look sharp. ;)

My fishnet pantyhose keeps my shirt tucked in.

I officiated in an AAU Girls' Nat'l. Champ. Tourn. years ago who did just that. I thought it was the stupidest thing I had ever seen, he was a much younger official than me.

Please don't tell us that you also, "Go Commando", at the same time.

I have no trouble keeping my shirts tucked in. I tuck them into my tights AND I usually wear the side panel shirts made by Officials' Choice. The side panel material is a stretchy fabric that stretches rather than pulls the shirt out. But not all side panel shirts have this separate material. Smitty, for example, doesn't.

I tuck my shirt in my underarmour and then line the inside of my pants on the waistband with double sided tape.

Don't knock until you've tried it. I've tried the different belts and tucking into my UnderArmour, and some part would always show if I bent over to pick up a ball or something (same thing happened to Ed Hightower on a recent national TV game I was watching), sometimes they would ride a bit above the pants too. Of course, body type and build may have something to do with that as well.

So I went to the shirt garters and they are great. I don't attach them to my socks though, even though I wear OTCs - legs are too long. Instead, I attach the double ends to the back of my shirt (two on the right half, two on the left) and then loop the single end around my leg and attach to the front.

Works perfect; enough "give" to allow movement but never so much as to have either front or back come anywhere close to looking untucked.

I found some shirt stays (garters) on this website - Supertuks - ordered them, tried them out and WOW, do they ever work well!

They look quite a bit better than most of the other offerings out there like the really plain, generic ones that you can find on E-bay and other such on-line ordering websites. The quality is very much first rate. The pair I originally got I'm still wearing daily and that was over 2 years ago. They are better than the current offerings in many ways:

1. The elastic used is superior, as wide as the straps they use for dress suspenders (1.25 inches). In fact, I believe that the elastics are the same in materials and quality as those used in suspenders, not like the "bra-strap" el-cheapo elastics they use in other shirt stays.

2. The shirt clips are very well made and will not lose the black rubber tabs used to secure the clip to the shirt hem.

3. The clips used to attach to the socks are like those similarly found on suspenders, allowing for quick and easy disengagement without the removal of your slacks. Also, I have not yet had a sock clip become disengaged and snap me in the nards. This is because the stays are of the Y-configuration and are generally worn on the outside of the legs.

4. The 2 "branches" that form the "y'' are allowed free travel through the D-ring at the junction (not fixed like on other shirt stays) allowing more freedom of movement and mobility as you stretch forward or back.

5. Unlike the other shirt stays on the market that make you look kinda stupid when one of the shirt clips comes undone (allowing the bottom strap to drop out from your pantleg and creating questions), Supertuks have a fail-safe elastic cord that prevents the stays from coming apart if a shirt clip should come undone. The cord will hold the setup together indefinitely until you can get to somewhere private to re-secure them. This cord is a first when it comes to shirt stays.

These are just a few points that I can think of. Have a look at the website sometime and see for yourself!

I wore the garters for many yrs in the military and really liked the look. Maybe I'll try them for a scrimmage and if I like them enough I'll invest in these.

PS - while I have had them "disengage" before, I have never been "snapped in the nards" either! :eek:

1. $40 is too much to keep my shirt tucked in when I can use either the Flex Belt or Ultimate Belt and pay $10 for either of them.

2. What do the Supertuks even look like? As far as I can tell, the website doesn't show a picture of the actual product.

I tuck my shirt into my compression shorts. It works great for me.

When you go to the site entry page, there's a picture of them laid out on some dress clothes.

You can use the Flex belt or Ultimate Belt but while they will keep your shirt tucked - initially, once your shirt does become un-tucked, you either have to loosen your belt and surreptitiously tuck your tails back in or find someplace private to redo the whole thing. I've used the belt before and have found such shortcomings annoying, to say the least.

The main advantage shirt stays have over the belt - at least a good set - is that even if your shirt should become un-tucked and starts "blousing," all you has to do is grab your waistband, suck in your gut (if you have one) shimmy the waistband a bit and the tension from the stays will pull the shirt back into your pants and into position.

As for the price of the Supertuks...well, all I can say is order a cheap set on line and you'll realize why the price is where it's at. Oh yeah, they're also Made In Canada, unlike the rest that are made with cheap labour and materials overseas.

You either want a good set that'll last a number years or a cheap set where you'll lose the tabs on the clips within a week ...and might contain lead!

I tuck my shirt with the "Military Tuck" all I have to do is retuck it at half time. No belts No garters No Straps No tights...works every time...

Must be nice!

Military Tuck - Well I guess you would have to been in the military to know...i could not find a link on youtube...it is a little hard to describe but if you look at military personnel, especially marines, at the back near the waistline you will see each side of the shirt tucked, like a crease. The tuck runs up the back length of the shirt. While getting dressed, you roll your pant waist down over the belt line, you lean back so you can pull the shirt down and tight, you must maintain this position so you can pull the shirt tight, you then pull the shirt tight down with both hands at the back so you are tucking the loose part of the shirt in towards a tuck motion. YOu hold it with two fingers, bring your pants pack up, Hold the tuck, straighten up, pull your pants up and secure the belt. Now run your hands around the front of your pants to bring the uncreased parts of the shirt around so that you smooth out the shirt and retuck the loose ends into the previous tuck, pull tight, secure the shirt ends under your shorts or tights, now you look great with no loose ends, no ruffles the shirt is smooth all the way around with a nice tuck and it forms a straight line so you look nice and neat. It takes a little practice but once you get it down it only takes a few seconds...or another recommendation is to just buy the velcro rubber belt.:rolleyes:

Garters in the Military? Never saw or knew anyone in my 10 years in the Navy that wore garters. Were they govt issued?
What if you were ASAPed and got caught with you garters on and no time to change or put on slacks to cover the garters, would you not get a ribbing from your buds? Did you just wear them with your dress uni's?

gruenwar - I did come across an article where one Marine stated at times they would wear garters with their AA's uniforms, not sure what those are, to keep their shirts looking sharp.

Did a little stint in the Armed Forces, I understand the "military tuck" but the garters were sold in the BX. To this day the BX is the only place I can find 'em.
Military tuck looked good for walking around/sitting, but I'm finding it hard to believe it last through the course of a game. When the arm goes up & down (fouls/violations/TOs) it couldn't look as sharp in the 4th Q as it did during intros.

The military tuck seems a tad bit complicated for me. I think I'll stick with the belts I have. :D

As was pointed out, garters were not govt issue and were/are for dress uniforms to "look sharp" and keep our shirts "tucked." As someone who stood in a lot of ceremonies (MP) and spent a lot of time in the Pentagon, I attest to how well they work......but reffing is a bunch of running and I have yet to try them in that environment. Maybe I will.

Military tuck is also accurately described earlier. I also concur with Ch1town, while I do the tuck with my shirts now, it is hard to maintain. I use the velcro belt and also tuck my shirt into my compression shorts (as described earlier) and try to stay fit and trim.....best I can do to present a good appearance - which to me is important.

Every now and then I will also catch myself doing a "Welmer Tug" though.....hey, it ain't perfect!
