This was fun

So in an intramural game tonight, I've got two fraternities playing. I tend to call a tighter game than most other intramural refs (I've worked with a couple who barely knew how to blow their whistle).

I whistle A1 for a foul. As I go to report, he screams "Are you f%^&#%& kidding me?" Whack. A few minutes later, I call the same player for a travel. He runs down the court mocking my travel signal. Clearly mocking. Whack. He's done.

Later I whistle A2 for a blocking foul. Apparently he thought it was a charge so it took him a second to realize I had the foul on him. As soon as he does, he starts arguing. It takes him a few seconds, but he eventually drops an F bomb on me too. Whack. He goes nuts, rips his jersey off and slams it down. Whack again, he's done. Then the rest of the game, the first guy didn't shut up, and if there weren't two minutes left in a blowout game, I would have had Officer Friendly escort him outside.

Fun game.

BTO would be proud. Way to take care of bidness.

College intramurals are tough to officiate. I think it helps to have a strong RIC for such a program.

when I did intramurals 10 years ago, all ejections led to leaving the building. It made things alot easier on all of us. I officiated intramurals through college, and the first year was rough, but as more and more frats and people who regularly play will appreciate more and more. In my final year of intramurals, I was asked to officiate certain games because they knew they would get someone who is not afraid to blow the whistle and be consistent. Keep it up.

IM games can be a lot of fun and they are a good learning experience. What was hard to do was IM football games between Frats. I recall saying this is flag football not tackle you knuckleheads.

IM games are definitely a fun time, if you get good teams. Alot of people take it wayyyy too seriously and think they are entitled to having every call go their way.

Just turned down a double header last night of this kind of crap. I mean really, who needs it? Also, it's $15/game. Heck, I'd pay $5 not to have to do it!

Bas,

That sounds like a great for an intramural official for someone who has been around a while. I actually am still in college and work intramurals for my campus and I can remember being in situations like through out my young career. Those experiences that I got from work both intramurals at my college at numerous extramural tournaments that I did have helped me out a lot with my game today and it has also made me a more confident person in life.
