Penalty for illegal jewelry/bobby pins

Is a Technical foul charged if you discover a player participating while wearing ear rings, other jewelry, bobby pins or a hair barrette? If so is it charge to the coach or player? Rule citation please.

I say the player should be directed to the bench until the item is removed. There are some in our association that insist it is a T.

You are correct. The "some in [your] association" are wrong.

Isn't there ever a rule book around during these discussions? Ask "some" to show you a rules citiation.

And tell them 2-3 doesn't count.

The only time I would give a T is after a warning. Heck, even after a warning if a player comes in with it then I would say go out. If they put it back in, say after a break then yeah I would T them up.

Rules reference, please. You're really stretching, here.

Penalty when discovered is having to watch two hours of "What Not To Wear".

I had a girl in an 8th grade game wearing a ring. Told her to take it off. She did but in the second half came back with it on and complained when I told her to remove it. If a high school player did something like that then I might do a T but only in unusual cases so very unlikely.

Last year, I had a 7th grade boy ask me before a game if he had to take out his nipple ring. I told him yes. He told his coach he had to go to the restroom for a minute.

My partner asked me how I would of liked to have been that kids father. I said not really.

3.5.6 SITUATION A: Substitute A6 is beckoned and enters the court to replace
A1. A6 is wearing: (a) compression shorts below the game pants which extend
below the knees; (b) cut-off jeans extending below the game pants; or (c) jewelry.
RULING: The items in (a), (b) and (c) are illegal and A6 will not be allowed to
participate while wearing the items. No penalty is involved. A6 simply cannot
participate until the illegal items are removed. (3-5-7)

First of all I would like to say hello to everyone! I have been following this message board site for a couple of years and have learned so much from you guys it just amazing,so thank you!

Anyway what I run into the most is on the Girls side is with the bobby pins and earings trying to cover them up with athletic tape. You would think that the coaches would inform them of this before the game but I guess that is what we are there for.
