Totally OT - had to brag about my wife
My wife, Merri, is a volunteer for the local chapter of Make A Wish foundation. She helps terminally ill kids realize their final wish. She's helped send kids to Disney World, Hawaii, Wrestlemania, tropical resorts, etc. Yesterday, a local radio station (K103) sponsored a phone-a-thon to help raise funds and mileage points for the organization. My wife spent four hours on the phones taking calls. They put her on the "lead phone" which meant she was first in the queue. I'm sure it was because of her sparkling personality.
Anyway, she raised tens of thousands of dollars and got huge amounts of frequent flier miles donated. One guy she spoke with gave $5000 in cash and 100,000 miles! The radio station interviewed some of the kids and their families and decided to also interview one of the phone volunteers. Guess who they picked. Yup, it was my old lady. Every time she does something for this group I can't tell you how proud I am of her. It also reminds me to give thanks that my three kids and seven grandkids are all healthy. Sorry if I bored anyone. I just had to type this up somewhere. Thanks, guys.

For our 25th wedding anniversary, I got a silver plate with our names engraved along with the date we were married and then it said "Opposites Attract" on it. She thought it was perfect.

I live with a special needs child and have been the fortunate recipient of a Make a Wish "event". They sent Matthew and his family to Disney World, all expenss. They put us in a limo to the airport, a rental van in FL, a two bedroom villa on the "Give Kid's the World" development, all tickets to all the amusement parks, the list goes on and on. On a side note, in conjuction with Coaches Against Cancer, our board held a Blow the Whistle on Cancer campaign last week. All officials used pink whistles in a effort to raise funds for the American Cancer Society. Most high schools in the area placed a box at the gate for donations and made anouncements etc. The school I picked the box up from donated exaclty $0. So, I took the box to my 5th through 8th grade rec games on Saturday. At haltime of each of the 4 games, I made a little speech and "volunteered" at seven or eight year old to pass my box around. In 4 hours they collected $452. All told we raised $6000 as a board. Hard times or not, there are people worse off than us. Your wife is a saint, all of us can learn from her!! - - - |
