Another "to T or not to T"
Just wanted someone else's take on this one.
First quarter, I'm inbounding the ball near V team's bench. V coach apparently doesn't like my count, so he starts counting for me (albeit much too quickly). As we're going the other way, I warn him, "Coach, it's my job to count, not yours. Please allow me to do my job." Fourth quarter, I'm T following the ball up the court, V coach yells out to me "(Unintelligible) working (unintelligilbe) butts off... and you're not even counting!" I was in the middle of a 10-second count at the time. I T'ed him up. Thoughts? |
Coach was mistaken. That's a T? I don't think I would have called it, though I understand your annoyance.
|
You warned him once, I don't have a problem with it....even if I say "I would not have T'd him for that", everyone has their own limit of what they are willing to take, if he pushed it past your limit then you did the right thing..as long as you are consistent they will learn...

My rule of thumb is if you question wether it was a good or bad T it probably was a good call. By this point in the season your first reaction is the right one. Just like when you make a travel call. You see it you call it. The thought process is very short.
February is the time of year when all the crazy coach come out. Our jobs are as much calling the game as it is the administrative stuff. |
"Coach - when you start counting like that it makes me lose count and I have to start over."

The book will be entitled : "Victims Of Abuse - The Referee Story". It's a sequel to my first book, "Coaching For Dummies". |

I would just like to point out that I said the same thing on THIS thread, but I got no love. I'm crushed . . . :( |
Where can I get Coaching for Dummies, I will take any advice I can get.
|
The only thing i hate about this is when the coach is right about the count or a call and I make it, not because he wanted it, but because it was the right call that I was going to make anyway.
Now instead of 1 PITA (pain in the a$$) you have the potential of the other coach crying about giving his opponent a call that he wanted. |

I forgot to add that I felt justified in my decision when, as my partner and I were leaving the floor, the coach broke off from the handshake line to yell at me "That's why you're not varsity."
It took everything within my power to not turn around and say, "Well, coach, looking at the scoreboard, that's why you're not varsity, either." |

Wrong title?
Hey Padgett...wasn't your first book "Coaching BY Dummies"?
But seriously, I have told a coach on 3 second counts that every time he yells at me, I loose count and have to start over. |
