Coach made me laugh last night...

During the last play of the 3Q last night in a very good V boys game (FIBA rules, 2 person) we had this play...

Visitors (V1) with under 10 seconds left in the 3Q dribbles the ball near the far sideline in the backcourt and is in a hurry to get the ball in a position for a last second shot, V1 fumbles ball forward into the FC, runs and recovers the ball and passes to V3 who scores an easy lay-up to tie the game & finish the quarter.

From the home bench I hear the following...

HC: Travel... that's a travel...
Me: Couldn't be a travel coach, V1 never had control, it was a fumble & recovery...
HC: But.... I... I... I had a better angle...
Me: LOL and

It really was a HTBT situation but I thought it was funny enough to share...
(The home team won by 6, but in was really close to going to OT)

I've never seen a coach who didn't have the "best" angle! A pretty good come back from a coach though!:)

Aren't all games which go into OT close by definition? Close, as in tied? :D

I reffed two B15U Rec Games last night. First game coach, I was his Asst Coach last yr. Good guy. Always Chirping and looking for a call. Doesn't step out of line though. Midway through the first quarter his player in the paint playing D, TWEET! Block.

Coach: "C'mon Ref. That's a charge. Best one you're gonna see all night."
Me: "Bet it's not."

Late in the third quarter, his point gaurd driving to the basket and runs right over defender with good LGP IMO. TWEET! Player-control foul against his guard. As I go toward the table to report he says - "Ok, you were right." :)

Reminds me of something that happened the other night.

I'm T tableside when ball is fumbled to the backcourt across the court. I hie down the other end with a good angle on the two players going after the ball. I see white give a good shove to red while going after the ball. I am in front of the home bench when I call the foul.

HC: What? Rita, Could you actually see that from here?

Me: Yes!

Then I report the foul.

Sheesh, if it had been the other way he would have had seen it perfectly as well.

Rita:rolleyes:

Years ago, boys jr. high. Partner called a foul on B1. Coach B was shocked.

"What??" He turned to me for support. "Mr. Ref, did you see that foul?"

"Yeah."

"You thought it was a foul?"

"Yeah."

priceless silence
