You issued a technical foul for an illegal shirt. The penalty is a direct technical foul charged to the player. As Nevada ponted out, that technical foul doesn't get charged until the player tries to enter the game. If the player never gets into the game, no "T". No matter what though, the head coach is NOT charged with an indirect technical foul and he does NOT lose the box. Rule 10-3-2. And....even if the coach had been given an indirect "T" before the game, he would not be disqualified if he received a direct "T" later. You need 2 direct "T"s or a total of 3 directs and indirects for disqualification. Rule 10-5-NOTE2.

I have to disagree with you, JR. New rule change this year--per 10-5-4 the technical foul for a player participating with an illegal uniform is charged directly to the head coach. The only possible misapplication by the OP was the timing of the T.
