Super Saturday

No, this has nothing to do with football. It's just that I got my schedule for this Saturday and I have eight games. Four in a row starting at 8:15 in the morning and four more in a row starting at 3:00 in the afternoon.

At least I have a few hours off to get a full body massage from Bambi. I'm on my way to the pharmacist in a few minutes to refill all my painkillers and buy a pallet of Therma-Care patches.

Just went through a similar thing last Saturday. Had 8 straight 4th grade girls games. Found out when I got onsite they added 1 more! Only good part is the first 3 mins of each quarter are running clock except for TO and FT's. Needless to say, Bambi was not able to be fit into the schedule. Got home, passed out in chair, (just like every other Saturday night I guess)

Pick up some Viagra for your massage from Bambi.

Are you kidding? At my age, the only thing Viagra is good for is to keep me from rolling out of bed. :D

I too have a tournament coming up with eight games on Saturday...the other official working is a warm body. It's a little church school tournament and usually runs pretty smooth, few problems with fans, sometimes falls behind time-wise...

best part is, it's about a 70 foot floor. four big steps and you're in the front court....tight quarters to be sure...but always a lot of fun.

Late last night, I was asked if I would pick up two more games late Saturday night. Since I wasn't conscious when I was asked, I said yes. That now makes 10 in one day. At least my wife will be happy that I'll be gone for so long.

That's just flat out crazy!

How good can any official be working 8-10 games in one day? Aren't there any other officials around to work any of these games?

Apparently not. Our rec league has a massive schedule this Saturday because our HS level games, which are usually played on weeknights, couldn't be this past week for some reason and got moved to Saturday so we have those plus our regular 3-8 grade games all on the same day. This is the only time I can remember that happening. All the officials on our list are working extra games that day. I also happen to be working for two other rec groups that same day. Usually I have about four or, at the most, six games on a Saturday, but more than four is pretty rare.

To answer your question of how good can any official be working 8-10 games in one day, the answer is: if it's me - then really good. ;)

Really good? Does that mean you can walk and not crawl during games 9 and 10?

I use a Segway, like Paul Blart.

Only two games on Sunday - so far. BTW - only two of my Saturday games are at HS gyms, six are at MS gyms and two are at elementary schools. However, four of the MS gym games are on a floor that is tile over concrete and has absolutely no "give" at all. It really sucks.

Like I said, good luck. I did that one time (10 games in one da) and could not walk the next day!!!!

The best part is that for six of the games, I get paid at the game. Pay for the other four will be in a check about a week after the games.
