Official scorer question

I don't ref basketball, but I do have a question. My school's team played a very disorganized school tonight. They had to use our school for their home game (last minute) and didn't supply a timekeeper or official scorer. What are the qualifications needed to be an official scorer? Eyes, ears, and hands? Seriously, is there an official definition for the scorer?

Our boys' coach ran the clock for the game, but it appeared an injured player of the 'home' team was running the book.

There's a list of duties in the rule book but no "qualifications" listed.

NFHS, no rules. But it is recommended that they sit next to the timer, although I doubt that gives you much relief. Other than that, I don't know of any rule regarding scorers. Sounds like you got stuck with a bad scorer.

Thanks, guys. The scorer didn't do a bad job, I just thought it looked bad to have a player in a home team jersey running the book.

Are there any rules regarding the same sitch in football?

Does your team not have a scorer at all games, regardless of whether they are home or away?

That's what I'm thinking, just designate the "visitor" book as the "official game record". Problem solved.

Yes, we have one. I guess the issue never got that far as they provided one.
