nba highlight- charging
Reading the ESPN recap I thought the call would have been closer. This is a charge right? I mean maybe a no call but not really nearly as controversial as they made it seem. Did look like Hayes got hit and was not a flop. It isn't Nene also- audio wrong.

Yes, it was charging. But many times, NBA officials ignore the foul if the ball is passed before there's contact. This is one of the few times I've ever seen it called in the NBA.

Nene pushed off with the left hand. Good call. I actually had to watch it 3 times to make sure. For those wanting to look without waiting, go to the 1:50 mark and start from there.

no foul on Nene, as I said the audio is wrong.
"Yao missed with 18 seconds left, Martin rebounded and Denver coach George Karl called timeout. Linas Kleiza drove into the lane and passed to Nene for a dunk. But the basket didn't count because referee Bennett Salvatore called a charge on Kleiza for running into Chuck Hayes." http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/recap?gameId=290119010 |
I saw a play like this...
...a few years ago. I was watching a BV being done by a 3-man from our association. Just as here, there was a charge on the pass. What impressed me was this put the non-fouling team into the bonus, and the calling official had no confusion about the situation.
