player puts ball on the floor after whistle

There is a whistle and the play is dead. A1 has the ball and he puts it on the floor. Just makes another player or ref pick it up.
Do you make him pick it up or a teammate? Call a delay? Just kind of a disrespectful thing to do that might falls short of a T if there hasn't been a warning for it.

dont go looking for trouble. just wait someone will pick it up. this is nothing worth losing sleep over.

My sister was adopted from Europe and this was SOP, she didn't know she was supposed to get the ball to the official. Ref told her to give the ball to the nearest official, she didn't do it again.

yeah I see those. A couple I've seen though were players who knew what they were doing at the varsity level and purposefully putting the ball down instead of just bouncing it to the ref or even just letting it go. This was bending down to place the ball on the floor because they were upset about a play or call. No big deal, just something I wouldn't want to see more than once in a game.

If you think they are doing it to "show you up", then deal with it (that doesn't necessarily mean issuing an immediate T.)

Agree, but if you must, you have the rules to back you:
NFHS 10-3-5 A player shall not, failing when in possession, to immediately pass the ball to the nearer official when a whistle blows.

Depending on the situation I will make a point to have the player who placed the ball on the floor pic it up and hand it to me. Then eveyone, including him, get the point. If you have to address it again, No suprise to anyone when a T comes bounding out of your hand.
