IAABO Test

Our IAABO membership is around 140 members. Unlike other IAABO boards, when we take the IAABO test, it is an open book test and we have at least 1 week to take the test. We just received the results of the test. Only 32 members received a 90% or better. :o 23% of the members passed.

We take the open book IAABO test too (1st year closed book).

Sounds like you will have some good post-season assignments due to the low passing rate in your area.

So 90% is passing? What happens to the ones who didn't pass?

An open book test is not a test, it is a worksheet.

The strange thing about the results. 14 of us got together to discuss our answers before we handed in the test. We got into lenghty discussion on a few of the questions. Only 2 of us, at this discussion, got all 50 correct. Me and another friend. The others did not like my explaination of why the answer should be yes or no. So they went their own way. Thus they got at least 2 wrong. 6 other members got perfect scores.
Now the problem is that they will enforce the rule incorrectly and I will come in the next game and rule it correctly. Of course, I will be judge wrong. Geez!
As for post season. They will get the assignments and I will be watching from the bleachers.

Which 6 questions did you miss? If you do not know, then ask me. I have ALL the correct answers!
The questions that created the most discussion are:
47, 45, 44, 39, 33, 27, 26, 21, 19, and 6

If written to challenge the test-taker's knowledge and application of that knowledge, it is a test. If written to enhance the test-taker's stupidity, then it's a worksheet. Trust me, I teach at the college level, and there is a difference because I've given open book EXAMS before.

Yeah! :D

Just because it's open book doesn't mean we look up the answers to each question. We usually get together in groups and take turns answering questions (what makes them T or F, why we disagree or whatever).

Was this the "Written Examination" or the Refresher Test? I think it must be the Written Exam, since I think you mentioned that it was 50 questions.

Zoochy Sat Jan 17, 2009 12:09am

This is the 50 question IAABO exam. We are allowed to take the test as an open book exam. We have about 10 days to return it to our secretary. Like I said about 14 of us got together to do a round table discussion.

Exam Or Refresher Exam ???

This year's written exam for new members was alright, only two really tough questions. I only had access to it because I'm on our training committee. Now the Refresher Exam. That's another story. It was the hardest, and most confusing, Refresher Exam that I've ever taken. I still don't agree with some of the answers. Please don't get me started, or I'll tell you what I really think.

Zooch, please forgive me for being so blunt, but that 50 question test is written for new applicants. It's supposed to be EASY enough for a new recruit to pass (after taking a few classes). If only 23% of your membership can get 44 out of those 50 questions correct -- with an open book and a week to work on it -- frankly that's pathetic.

Your board needs to seriously re-evaluate its training and/or "continuing education" for its members.

Scrapper, you're preaching to the choir. I doubt that our secretary will do anything about this. He has been giving a empty threat each year. I realize rule knowledge is not the only thing that makes a good official. But it is a good start!
