ABA Officials pay

Anyone know what ABA officials make per game?

deecee Tue Jan 13, 2009 08:34pm

What's up with all these pay threads.

I think that all any new aspiring official should know is that you wont get rich doing this. The only ones who make a decent, comfortable living not killing themselves all year are D1 officials that do a lot of games during the season and NBA officials.

The get to those 2 spots is rare and difficult. Officiating is more for love of game and not to make ends meat and survive. Especially if you only ref one sport. The officials I know that are full time officials are at least 3 sport refs, in most cases they do 4.

Chill, I was just curious

A buck three eighty. Plus airfare and popcorn.

I have heard anywhere from $200-$350 per game if that helps, though, I don't have any official ABA documentation, plus a decent meal, a cold drink, and sometimes a hot shower.

I heard they split $675. They hand it to the ref and he divides it up. Of course that is in Vt, which is now PBL,

DOn't know about the ABA, but I do know officials who work an EBA (Eastern Basketball Alliance) get $100 per game.

The EBA is a pro league that uses a 2 man referee system.

I worked a rec league once where the players paid the refs before the game...captains/coaches would literally walk around and collect cash from the guys on the team before the jump ball...had guys pulling it out of their socks, waistbands...kind of disgusting and REALLY uncomfortable taking money from a guy one minute and have him yelling at you about a block/charge the next...

And how do you think some of us who do slow-pitch softball feel? You get a half-drunk jacka** coming to the plate with a whole wad of $1 bills he collected from a bunch of half-drunk to fully drunkened jacka##es who are trying to figure out which end of the bat they're supposed to hold up.

Well if they would spend all of those $1 bills BEFORE the game they wouldn't only be half drunk and you wouldn't have to worry about a game!:p

True, true! If they weren't there, we'd just fill out the forfeit form and wait till the next month for the check that raids their forfeit fund deposit. :D

I'd rather lick Chinese toys than work 2-person in a pro league.
