Shorts or pants?

I was just assigned a partner for a kids rec game next week and I emailed him to confirm and to tell him I expected to be on time. This is SOP. He emailed a confirmation back and said he was going to be wearing shorts. I replied that I was going to be wearing shorts and pants and I put a smiley face after that. Apparently, he didn't get it. He emailed back that he was going to wear pants to the game because it would be cold but would wear shorts during the game.

If this is an indication of his sense of humor, we're going to have a problem.

I would have been worried that he would show up in non-black shorts.
I probably would have emailed him just to remind him that we wear black.
