Thats what I try and tell the assignor. But he believes he knows what he is doing.

No seriously that level of game is probably a little out of my reach at this point. But I am a pretty competent Girls Varsity ref.

If you're a competent girls ref, you're a competent boys ref. Don't want to hijack thread but that's just not true.

And whether you are a competent Girl's Official or not, is not the point in the first place. This was obviously lesser experienced (or not very good) officials that misapplied the rule in this situation.

Peace

This is the second post in the last week about a team having 6 players on the court...I suggest we add some math questions to the 2009-2010 NFHS Basketball Test.

How about something clear and unambiguous like we're used to like:

T/F - An official shall, might, may, will halt play and assess a technical foul to the offending team when the official notices a team has six players on the court during a live ball (or it is brought to their attention by a player, coach, table personnel, or an irate fan or parent). All points shall, might, may, will be erased (no matter how much time has elapsed and how many points are scored). Television monitors and private camcorders are allowed to be used to review the situation.

T/F - If an official misses counting six players on the court and allows play to continue, he/she is subject to public scorn and ridicule.

I find the average boys game easier to officiate than the average girls game.

I have to disagree in general with this thought.

In most cases the boys games involve more physical play, are faster, and often have action above the rim. Officiating those aspects of the game can be rather challenging and perhaps beyond someone who is a "competent girls ref." That same person may not have the foot-speed, a comfort with physical, aggressive action, or the necessary skills or knowledge to properly judge GT/BI and high-flying plays near the rim. It's definitely possible that a person who does mostly girls games has not cultivated these aspects of his/her officiating and consequently would not do a quality job on a boys game which involved those things.

Of course, this person could be just fine on a boys game that doesn't include that kind of action.

Why is it I'm perfectly fine with any kind of boys game but uncomfortable after working a girls game where there are 26 held balls and most of the game involves 8 players diving on the floor for loose balls accompanied by people screaming "You have to call SOMETHING!"?

Because you live in the middle of Wisconsin, and we all know that is huge area for great girls high school basketball!
