Question "handshake"...WTF??

Ok, since I am in Australia, please forgive my ignorance (and my metric spelling). Having read a few posts here, there are several references to the "handshake" process/incident/procedure etc

Anyone care to briefly explain what this refers to, so I don't need to troll through hundreds of posts?

Cheers

Some teams, after playing the game, form lines and shake hands with each other.

There has been some violence associated with this.

Rita

PS. I had the pleasure of reffing a team from Australia last year. We managed to do fine because they were flexible about the rules differences. Very gracious folks.

Massachusetts has implemented a rule that requires the officials to stay on the court for the post game handshake.
