Good thinking, Bob. I never thought of stealing one of M&M's shirts. Great idea and I wish I'd thought of it before you. Of course, he would tell ya it wouldn't matter because I wouldn't have anywhere to fit it in my bag.

So I'm taking it you are officially on the beltless wagon now?

refnrev Thu Dec 18, 2008 04:51pm

For about two years now. You stick out in a V crew with a belt around here... though I do remember a game a few years and several miles south of here when one of the V guys showed up in a belt, big silver buckle, byron collar shirt, and traditional lanyard. Stop laughing, I'm not making this up!

PS. I never knew M&M stood for micromesh!

Hey, I was poking around in my bag last night, and it appears I'm missing one of my shirts...

Anyone seen it?

Nope, haven't seen it.

Hey. What's wrong with a traditional lanyard? I tried the Smitty, and didn't like it.

refnrev Thu Dec 18, 2008 10:43pm

Nothing. I have several that I keep for back up. The Fox 40 one can actually slide to almost make a noose style. But a byron collared shirt, big thick belt, and big belt buckle. Gotta admit: That you don't see every day!

M&M,
Can't be your shirt.
1. Mine has black and white vertical stripes and looks like a zebra.
2. I have an IHSA patch 2" from the shoulder on the left sleeve and a flag 2" from the shoulder on the right sleeve.
3. Mine has a loop to put a smitty on it.

I'm sure yours doesn't look anything like that!:D

You're right. The byron collar looks so old fashioned. I actually prefer an "Oxford-like" button down collar, with a bow tie. It impresses the cheerleaders' grandmothers.

Was the belt patent leather?

Not that classy, actually.

Trick question: contemporary shirts have no collar. :p

refnrev Fri Dec 19, 2008 06:00pm

Boys game cancelled for tonight, but picked up a girls JV/V combo for tomorrow morning /afternoon. I finally get to wear M&M's shirt..... eh, I mean my new uniform!:D

Inquiring Minds Want To Know ...

Poet collar, a soft shirt collar, often with long points, worn by Romantic poets such as Lord Byron, or a 1970s style reminiscent of this.

Check out any footbal zebra and you will see one. Stripes with a black color and zippered front. WAY hotter than the V-neck and the only basketball shirt available before the v-neck.

Where did they line up for free throws back then? I don't see any lane spaces.

Also, does the free throw line look really close to anyone else? Did it used to be closer?

I love how spacious that gym is. Would have been a blast to work in there. :p

I think they gathered wherever they felt like for FTs.....jockeying for position under the basket for the best rebounding position.

I knew someone would drag one of these out when I posted that... or one of the old greyish/tannish ones like in Hoosiers.
