60 Seconds: Team Control
This is from today's "quick take."
Team Control Foul Mechanics Since the introduction of the “team control foul” the administration of this foul is much simpler. Similar to a player control foul, no shots are awarded to the offended team and we can quickly put the ball into play after reporting the foul properly. Since this is a newer mechanic, many officials have trouble understanding when a team is in control and when to use the actual team control signal. Below are a few things to remember about team control and the team control foul procedure. Team Control = YES If a player has control. While a live ball is being passed among teammates. When the ball gets away momentarily after deflecting off the dribbler (i.e. Interrupted Dribble). When the ball is loose, it still remains in control of the last team to have it, unless a try/tap for goal. Team Control = NO When the ball is in flight for a tap or try for goal. When the opponent secures control. When the ball is slapped away (by the defense) from an offensive player in control. When the ball becomes dead. During a jump ball or throw-in, there is no team (or player) control. (...) Anyone else disagree? |

You have to do a little more than "slap the ball away." Team control by definition does not end at that time.

No, this is the email from someone that sends these things out every week or so. I think they come from IAABO, but I am not sure.

I believe that ends the dribble (if applicable) but it doesn't end TC... until the defense gains possession.

They have... what I posted was in the e-mail they sent out this morning. I'm going to guess they got several e-mails stating the same point I was making.

Is 60 Seconds Worth It ??
I just subscribed a few days ago. Today's email seemed educational. Is it worth it, time wise, it's free, for me to continue my subscription? Between me on the Forum, and my twin brother, Billy Mac (note space), on the NFHS forum, we both already spend a lot of time on the computer. Is 60 Seconds worth it?

Is It Possible To Opt Out ???
I hope that there's a way to opt out if I decide to. I never thought of that when I signed up. I guess that I can always use my SPAM filter if I have to.

The interestig thing...
If you look at the rules (4-15-6) Player control foul cannot be committed during an interrupted dribble... So a couple of yeras ago if a interrupted driblle occurred and ball went loose it was a common foul.... Once we inserted team control, there is no PC but still team control... This is my personal commentary..I think we now call fouls as TC that may have not been intended by the rules. The play that I hate is that you have A1 dribbling the ball, B1 knocks ball away and both are diving for ball and A1 now pushes B1 to get at ball... I know it is a TC foul and will call it that way but personally it should (for lack of a better term) some sort of loose ball foul.... |
