Illinos/MO guys

So how many of you got iced out for last night's games like me? Just wondering.

I was in Paris last night, and our game went on as scheduled.

Both teams surrendered before the game started. (Oh, wait, that's a Padgett joke. Sorry.)

budjones05 Tue Dec 16, 2008 12:50pm

I was suppose to have the Hickman/Jeff City Game.

JRutledge Tue Dec 16, 2008 01:04pm

I did not have a game last night.

Peace

BLS Tue Dec 16, 2008 01:39pm

It wasn't bad in the Bloomington/Normal area. I had a Fr. Boys game in Heyworth. I'm starting to wonder about tonight though.

I'm up North and it was fine. It is winter in Illinois, there are no surprises.

Zoochy Tue Dec 16, 2008 02:30pm

My Monday game in St Charles, MO was cancelled and my Tuesday game inside St Louis City is cancelled. I am not scheduled for the next 3 weeks.

JerryLundagard Tue Dec 16, 2008 02:33pm

I think most everything else in St. Louis and St. Charles county are still a go. Too bad for you.

ChrisSportsFan Tue Dec 16, 2008 02:45pm

my game is St. Charles is cancelled tonight but my Son's game is playing so it works out for me to go watch...I'm happy

IHSAref Tue Dec 16, 2008 03:55pm

I had a game in Fisher and it went on as planned. Got called off tonight at Eureka. It is pretty bad here.

zm1283 Tue Dec 16, 2008 04:17pm

My games on Monday were canceled in southwest MO. Nothing scheduled tonight but I know of other games being postponed/canceled in the area.

SWMOzebra Tue Dec 16, 2008 04:26pm

Nothing scheduled last night, but was supposed to be in Stoutland tonight for a BJV/BV set that has been called due to weather.

Rich Tue Dec 16, 2008 04:32pm

About to drive 70 miles to work a girls game. Last time I was there, it was during a snowstorm, too.

MikeK27 Tue Dec 16, 2008 04:45pm

I don't have any games tonight, but I have heard of a few canceled here in my area. The roads still have ice on them from yesterday, now they are being covered with snow, so it is not looking good for any travel. I assume everything around here will be canceled, if it hasn't already been.

If you would have had a game, would you have used your favorite Fox40 CMG?:)

I wasn't too far from you. I was in Charleston last night. Roads were fine last night (tonight is a different story). Speaking of Padgett...we had OT.

The Bunnies!

ILRef80 Tue Dec 16, 2008 09:32pm

Last night (Monday) was slick - but not too bad. My game for tonight was cancelled and we are looking at more freezing rain on Thursday. Yuck.

Nope! But I am curious about why you don't like the 40 CMG.

I think the proper response would be because they "blow.":p What whistle do you use?

The regular Fox 40 Classic.

Those other damn whistles come apart and you end up finding the plastic is coming off and making the whistle useless. The life span of the Fox 40 are much longer (for me at least). I do not know why people like those things in the first place. To each his own.

Peace

Damn ice!! My game has been cancelled tonight.

Oh well, I guess I'll kick back and watch Marty's Evansville squad take on North Carolina.

refnrev Thu Dec 18, 2008 04:44pm

Ooooooh. I'll bet that won't be pretty!

Probably not. But it will be good to see a hometown guy get some national air time.

refnrev Thu Dec 18, 2008 04:53pm

What network? If I don't go to a HS game I'll watch the Purple Aces.

ESPN or ESPN2.

Rich Thu Dec 18, 2008 05:17pm

A lot of games moved up from 7:30PM to 5:30 to 6:30PM in anticipation of a coming storm. 8 games by a quick count postponed in the area outright.

My game's still at 7:30PM. :(

Anyhow, I think there's a near 0% chance I'll be working tomorrow. I confirmed with the school that if the school day is canceled, so are all events. So I'll know early tomorrow. I'll be happier if it is canceled, actually, as my parents are due to fly in tomorrow night for the holidays and I would like to be able to get them at the airport (of course, who knows if they'll get here or not).

I Already Had That $168.88 Spent, No Presents For The Kids This Christmas ...

Connecticut. Six to twelve inches of snow due Friday, mid-day through rush hour. I already lost a boys high school varsity game Friday night, and a boys varsity prep school holiday tournament game on Saturday morning. I was looking forward to these games. My assigner is going to go crazy, Friday nights are the busiest nights for basketball here in the Constitution State.

refnrev Thu Dec 18, 2008 10:51pm

Really icy tonight, but supposed to be 40 tomorrow am and the ice all gone. Hope so, I have my last boys game of the year tomorrow night!

I was in Charleston on Wednesday afternoon but not to ref. I was working my way thru some clients in Matoon, Charleston, Tuscola and finished in Champaign.

Nice. Did you eat at the (orginal-sort of) Jimmy John's?

Out on the Trail

Tuesday night, had a Frosh A Boys Tourney, (Chicago western suburb) double header scheduled for 5 and 6:30pm. Let work at 2:30p for trip would should have taken 45-50 minutes tops. I walked in the gym at 7:10pm just in time to watch partner inbound ball for start of second half. Only took 2-hours to travel the last 6-miles.

Not a fun trip, I called the AD several times to keep him posted on progress.

JRutledge Fri Dec 19, 2008 04:12pm

Well games got cancelled yesterday and today.

Both games are on for tomorrow. Only time will tell.

Peace

fullor30 Fri Dec 19, 2008 04:16pm

Varsity game tonight cancelled, I have three tomorrow. Keeping my fingers crossed.

Freddy Fri Dec 19, 2008 04:29pm

Thank You, Illinois

Most schools closed today (Friday). Tonight's games are still on at the school at which I was assigned. Though more weather is moving in later tonight (thank you to all my Illinois friends for sending it our way--once your weather is processed through the Lake Michigan "Lake Effect Snow Factory", we really get dumped on here!) tomorrow's games should be okay.

In November, Indiana and parts of Michigan got hammered by the so-called "Lake Effect Snow" and the State of Illinois did not get touched. Michigan is after all connected to the Lake "Michigan" too. I do not know that all of that comes our way. The storm that hammered Illinois hit a lot of central Illinois where I am currently located. They never get what is called "Lake Effect Snow." I think this was just your old fashion weather event.

Boys game cancelled tonight. Picked up a JV/V girls combo for tomorrow though.

I just got both games back, Sunday morning, and Monday night. $168.88 back in my pocket.

Prep school. This is a makeup due to tonight's snowstorm, originally scheduled for Saturday morning. Last year I had a prep school game originally scheduled on a Sunday afternoon.

JRutledge Fri Dec 19, 2008 07:47pm

I am only talking high schools and below now

Actually I do not see the big deal about Sunday like others might. It just does not happen in this state very often and when it there are games on Sunday, it is usually a tournament or shootout held off of a high school campus. I am even working a Christmas Tournament in about a week and they start the day after Christmas. It is a 4 day tournament and this year Sunday interrupts the tournament in the middle (first time this is the case since I have been working the tournament). Then we start up on Monday. There are certainly summer tournaments or leagues played on Sunday, not sure why this cannot be done during the regular season more often. I would really think this would be the case when you are trying to fit games into place.

Peace

Nice day yesterday and nice morning so far... but now they're calling for snow after lunch and very cold temps with 30 - 40 mph winds tomorrow. Glad I have a early afternoon game and only have to drive 4 minutes to the gym. Also hope roads are good for church tomorrow!
