Time to go?

How do you tell an older official "It's time to go?" I worked with a guy, 73 years old. He has been officiating for 40 years now. He is a great guy but you have to help cover his area or your crew is in trouble. Believe it or not, he is better this year than he was last year, but he is slow. And we are early in the season, it may wear on him as the season goes on.

I don't think it's my job, it's the executive boards job but no one wants to be the one. His assignments are diminishing but he is not getting the hint.

Ideas?

Tell him to do volleyball. No running. And he can still contribute with his years of officiating expertise.

Don't do that.
