The Dynamic Duo back together again

Just found out I'll be working a game with Juulie tomorrow (Sun, Dec. 7). It's a competitive 7th grade girls game. If we get any grief from any coach, I'll quote my alter ego, Mr. T: "I pity da fool".

Any of you local guys who want to come by are welcome. It's at Beaverton HS at 1:00.

Off the wall... I recently (well, within the last 2 months) visited Portland for a day (primarily to sample the fare at Voodoo Doughnuts), and had some spare time so I jumped on the TriMet and there was a football game in progress at Beaverton, so I decided to stop and watch.

I'm not local, but I'll watch for it on ESPN.

I hope this one is more fun than the first game I had on Saturday. It was a 7th grade girls game. Final score, Beaverton 60, West Linn 0! No, I am not kidding. It was 40-0 at halftime. The West Linn coach told her girls in the 4th quarter to shoot nothing but 3s. Obviously, none went in.

What was kind of weird was that the Beaverton coach, who really tried not to "pour it on" is a college student who would like to coach at the HS or college level someday. She grew up in my city, Tigard, and I reffed a lot of the rec games in which she played. I didn't remember her, but she remembered me.

Of course, I made some calls at the end to avoid the possibility of overtime.

Looks like it probably took all of your mental skills to make that happen.

"Sigh" ...

Don't feel so bad about my frosh tuneup prior to my varsity schedule now. It was 30-0 before the other team scored. Halftime was 40-2. I think the final was 80-12. A great scoreboard operator. The score was wiped out before we even left the court. Had to delay the start of the game because it was a tournament and both teams brought their away jerseys which were navy blue. Looking back, I am pretty sure we could have told them apart without the pinneys.

Well, I worked my game with Juulie and it was a pretty routine game. We had the same team I worked the day before that had won 60-0. This time, they won "only" 45-20 although the first quarter was really close and the other team actually had a small lead for a while. Juulie and I discussed a few calls and our communication was really good. It was fun working with her again. Oh yeah, she told me straight out that she has heard all my jokes so I could just save them. :D

So at the pregame you discussed the fact that there would be no OT, right? ;)

Well, I didn't say it until near the end of the game. But after that, he did capitulate and tell me a new joke I'd never heard. We're working together again tomorrow, so I"ll see how it goes!

Juulie - glad to see that you picked up the Tuesday night game on my "home" court. See you there. Don't worry about the traffic.

But if you even so much as snickered, you will hear that 'new' joke again.
