Airball shot, ball going up

last one- getting these in before tofu tukey day:rolleyes:

Ok, so it is fine to catch your own airball or retrieve it if it is a legit shot. (Of course studies have shown that 82.3% of players do not know this.) I was playing a pickup game and I had the ball and just kind of lazily laid it up. I saw that it was going to be short and I jumped up quickly and caught it in air and then shot it back up. Thinking back it might have hit the rim. It might have still been going up, not sure but it was not going to make it. On a shot like that must the offense player wait for the ball to miss or being going down without it hitting the rim?

I'm gonna say that this is a play one would need to see to be certain of the call, but offhand, if you were trying to lay the ball up and it was that short, if it did not qualify as a try in the eyes of the official, it might have looked like a fumble.
(slipped out of your hand wrong?) Either way, you are free to recover the ball without restriction.

If indeed you caught your own shot while it was still going up, you are quick.

Under NFHS and NCAA rules that is allowed.
Under NBA rules what you have described is a violation.

Of course. He eats tofu turkey. He's as healthy as a bull, a very fast, pet, not for consumption, bull.

Happy Thanksgiving.

Just to add my 2cents (with the collapse of the Aussie dollar it is more like .75 of a cent). :D

This is also legal under FIBA rules
