Part 1 - question #64
#64 The throw-in is at the designated spot nearest the violation after a goaltending violation by B1.
This statement is word for word from the 2002-03 test, to which the answer key said was true [7-5-2,3]. My opinion is that this statement should be FALSE however, because the points for the basket would be awarded for the violation and the thrower would have the privilege of running the baseline for the throw-in. The official would administer the throw-in by handing or bouncing the ball to the thrower. The action of moving along the baseline does not meet the requirements for the designated spot definition [4-42-6 note]. Am I missing something here? |

rule 9-12-1 tells us to do it..."The crediting of the score and subsequent procedure are the same as if the awarded score had resulted from the ball having gone through the basket, except that the official shall hand or bounce the ball to a player of the team entitled to the throw-in."

Certain assignors or state adoption allows the bounce on the end line and some don't. You need to find out what your assignor prefers you do and do that, ours here in kentucky frown on the bounce. They say it's too much like the college game so they don't like it!

Bounce or not to Bounce
Tail and Center officials can "Bounce" the ball for a Throw in. The Lead official 'Hands' the ball to a player for a throw in. The Lead can "Boune" the ball for a throw in if the throw in occurs along the sideline between the Free Throw line extended and the endline.
