Thumbs up Maybe they can design a good referee shoe

News story here today in Portland:

Each year, kids from Doernbecher Children’s Hospital visit the Nike World Headquarters in Beaverton to collaborate with their very own Nike designer, where they create their very own shoes. The designs reflect who they are and what they want to become, and proceeds from the sale of the shoes benefit the children's hospital.

The shoes are sold at the Niketown stores in Portland and Eugene. This raises quite a bit of money for the hospital and really gives the kids a fun experience. Kudos to Phil Knight.

BTW - my wife also works to help these kids as she is a volunteer for the Make A Wish Foundation. Not part of the shoe story, but I wanted to give her some kudos in public, too.

Converse "design your own sneaker" website ???

Our daily newspaper has a consumer reporter who reported that a little girl, who had saved up her own money, went to the online Converse "design your own sneaker" website, and designed, ordered, and paid for her self-designed Converse sneakers. The Converse website did not inform potential buyers that all sizes are male sizes, so, naturally, she ordered her normal, female size, which, of course, didn't fit when she got the sneakers delivered. Her parent complained to Converse that it wasn't made clear on the website that a female should order the comparable male size, and that her daughter would like her money back. Converse refused to give the little girl back her money, because custom sneakers could not be returned. When the consumer reporter got involved, I believe that the little girl finally got her refund, or credit.
