More D3 upsets!

Again, from d3hoops.com:

Quote:
Senior guard Michael Penson scored 16 points, including 10 in a row in the final two minutes to give Mississippi College the lead and senior forward Richard Worthy hit two free throws with 4.7 seconds remaining to seal the win for the Choctaws, 85-81 in an exhibition win Monday night at D-I Alcorn State.

It's the second exhibition win in as many days for a D-III men's team against a Division I opponent, following UW-Platteville's defeat of Bradley on Sunday. On Nov. 1, Westminster (Mo.) beat SIU-Edwardsville, a school in the first year of a four-year transition from Division II to Division I.

How will this thread end up? The last D3 beat D1 thread went way off topic, but it was a lot of fun. As fun as a barrel of monkeys, "silly monkies".

Well, ok, I'm going to buck the trend and try to keep this off-topic thread on-topic. (Huh? )

I wonder if the talent level is just being spread around more, due to more television and media coverage? Not too long ago, some coaches could coax the really good players by saying, "Come to Big-Time U. and we can get you on TV!". Now, with cable and regional networks, that isn't as big a draw anymore for the big schools, so the really good players can stick closer to home, or go to the same school their friends are going, etc.

The highest level I officiate is high school varsity, and I've been on television, on local cable stations, a few times.

It's Hawaiian - it means: "More talent, in more places".

(I think.)
