Bench Technical

As I run past Team A's bench, I hear someone say something worthy of a T but I don't know who said it.

Team technical and also an indirect to the head coach?

One foul added to the team foul count?

If you don't know who said it how do you know it came from the bench? Could have been a fan.

Me? I'm having a short, one-sided conversation with coach warning him/her to control the bench.

Agreed. I've made my mistake on that one and don't care to repeat it!

Because there are no bleachers on that side of the gym. It certainly came from someone on the bench and not from a fan. Now what?

Only gyms I work in like that are rec leagues. And in that case I would get a technical for my response. :D

Most of the gyms where I work girls varsity open the bleachers only on one side because of the low attendance.

I'm with Bad News on this one. Tell the coach to get his/her bench under control before whacking someone.

That is a possible way to handle it and within the rules. However, I would strongly prefer to pinpoint an individual offender.

If you absolutely, positively know it came from the bench (as you state in another post) AND it is something that just can't be passed on with a word to the coach, yes, charge it to the team and as an indirect to the HC and as one team foul.

Another ploy I've heard suggested (but not something I've ever done) is to just pick a player (their best player if they're out at the time) ...who'll likely respond by pointing the finger at the guy how did it. Again, not necessarily a recommended approach but it might get the right result.

Also, fewer distractions for the players ...

I've been told by several coaches that they prefer this setup because then the parents can't hear what they're saying to the players. What's the big secret?

That only works if the team nickname is the "Snitches". It definitely doesn't work if the team nickname is the "Sopranos".

No the coaches like it because they can't hear the parents!
