back court violation
team a is taking it out on baseline and throws ball out top and is tipped by team a and goes into backcourt is this a backcourt violation
|
No, in this situation team control was not established, so team a is free to go into backcourt and get the ball.

jarhead ;) is right. You cannot have a backcourt violation without team control. There is no team control during a throw-in. During a period of no team control, team control is established when a player establishes player control. Player control is defined as a player holding or dribbling a live ball inbounds.

Who You Gonna Call ? Mythbusters ...
During a throwin, even under a team’s own basket, if the throwin is deflected, tipped, or batted by an offensive player in the frontcourt to an offensive player in the backcourt; or after a missed field goal attempt or a missed foul shot attempt, if the ball is deflected, tipped, or batted by an offensive player in the frontcourt to an offensive player in the backcourt; these are not a backcourt violations. In both cases team control, a player holding or dribbling the ball, has not yet been established.
