3-man Switching Mechanics

I haven't seen this being discused on the forum but I've noticed that IAABO has reverted back to "opposite table" while NFHS has remained "tableside".

For those working in IAABO boards, may be an issue to resolve during preseason meetings.

If NFHS mechanics immediately followed CCA procedures, rather than delay the adaptations for the future, there would be no need for Fed mechanics committee.

Do the CCA even publish 2 person mechanics any more? There's still an awful lot of 2 person out there in Fedlandia.

I hope people aren't talking about IAABO when talking about governing bodies. IAABO is a middle man that costs the officials more money. There is nothing IAABO boards do that a good association doesn't do. I've been to states with and without IAABO so while this is my opinion I know it is also true.

I care a little. I really don't like the women's area of responsibility for the Lead in the frontcourt.

I've heard that they considered changing it for this season -- maybe it will get changed for next.

the only issue I run across is when working with some officials who do a lot of non-womens there is a reluctance to make the pass of the ball handler below the FT line extended to the lead.
It can create a situation if you are not able to communicate who has what during play. even if you communicate this in pre-game it is hard to get some people to break old habits.

Doing predominately women's I make my eye contact toward the Trail /Center depending on the issue, and if they do not want to pass responsibility then I go back inside.
I'm used to the coverage so it really doesn't bother me.

All in all, I prefer going opposite and letting the trail handle the extraneous table stuff while the reporting/returning Center lets the Lead know what's going on.

The only reason I would llike it seen changed back, is due to doing one on one night and have to go and do something else the next. It needs to be the same to avoid confusion, going back and forth from NFHS and CCA

But which CCA mechanics should NFHS "adopt", men's or women's? Women are still table side, men are opposite. At least NFHS mechanics and rules are the same between the genders.

IMHO, I would think that the Fed's will stay in conjuction with the NCAA-W mechanics due to the fact that Mary Struckhoff is the assistant director of the National Federation of State High School Associations and NCAA coordinator of women's basketball officials.
