Changing Hats...
Well, I'm going to the dark side starting 11/9...First game of the season for my 3rd grade travel team that I'm coaching! :D
My daughter made the team and I volunteerd to head coach if she made it. So, we are 3 weeks into practice and the season starts in 2 weeks. We'll be playing in the league that I typicaly officiate in (I do the boys and girls games for grades 3-8). I've been warning all my ref buddies that "I'm coming to a sideline near you!" :p Will be a bit different for me since the guys I typically pair with to ref will now be MY officials....I told them I promise not to get any Ts!:D I guess I'll have to stop reffing the girls league while my daughter plays ;) |

Remember that at 3rd grade level, even with a traveling team, you're going to get your share of relatively inexperienced officials, so this is your chance to exhibit the absolute top level of good sportsmanship. Be sure to shake their hands after the games and tell them they did a good job. It will mean a whole lot to them, especially if they're really young.

One girl did get cut but we also have a standard rec league for her to play in. The reason she was cut was said that it appeared she never picked up a basketball until the night of evals. She's playing rec though and encouraged to come out again next year. Her parents understood.... The travel program allows those that are a step above to play with other players who are a step above against other area school districts. I have a few girls who I would classify as "A" players for this age and really need to be playing with better players because they would run circles around some of the rec league kids. |

just remember to take off the press after you are up 20 plus points:eek:

At least there are no dandelions to pick in basketball. The 3rd grade traveling baseball team's coach has that to deal with.

It's not easy to know what you're thinking about.
