Here's one...More to follow......

Team uses t/o in middle of 3rd quarter thinking it's their last one. Come to find out in middle of fourth quarter it was an excessive t/o as they had none left at the time. Do you administer a tech, or does it have to be administered while it is occurring??? Thanks

2007-08 Basketball Rules Interpretations

SITUATION 11: A1 requests and is granted an excessive time-out. The excessive time-out is discovered (a) immediately; (b) when A1 has the ball at his/her disposal for a throw-in following the time-out; (c) during a dead ball after three minutes have elapsed off the game clock. RULING: In (a), (b) and (c), assess a team technical foul to Team A for the excessive time-out. Team B is awarded two free throws and the ball for a division line throw-in. The penalty for an excessive time-out is assessed when discovered. (10-1-7 Penalty)

Interesting this doesn't come under the correctable error situations.

In this game there are three kinds of officials' foul ups, bleeps, and blunders. There are the Correctable Errors, covered by 2-10. There are several more "fixable foul ups", which are kinda sprinkled throughout the book. And there are the "too bad, so sad" variety, which are not fixable.

Perhaps they should all be gathered together into 2-10, just to pull them all together in one place. But they are not. Please don't be confused into thinking that no situation can be "fixed" if it's not in 2-10.

BTW, you might want to have a look at BillyMac's thread on technical foul rules. There's quite a collection of things there that have varying time limits on when they can be enforced.

My thread, but I got a lot of help from Back In The Saddle.

4) Penalized when discovered:
a) Have identical numbers on team members or players after the ten minute time limit; Team technical; One foul per team regardless of the number of infractions. Only one team member may wear a given number; the other must change to a number not already in use before participating.
b) Request an excess timeout; Team technical. The penalty for an excessive timeout is assessed when discovered.

I doesn't fall under the correctable error situations because it is not a correctable error.
