In the NBA teams shoot away from their benches in the second half.
In HS they shoot on the same side.
Why is this?
Or have REALLY been drinking to much NyQuil

In the NBA, I believe that the visiting team gets to pick which basket they want to shoot at in the first half. So in some games the teams may shoot at the basket in front of their bench at the end of the game; and in other games, the teams might be shooting at the basket away from their bench at the end of the game.

I think. Drake or Eli can tell you for sure. Either way, lay off the NyQuil. :)

That's right Chuck. Visiting team has first choice of baskets, and the decision need to be made when they first come onto the floor. No warming up, then deciding they want another end of the floor. I see you've been studying your rules!;):D

I believe the rational behind the highschool rule is so that it's easier for the coach to give offensive intructions, in what could be the critical moments of the 2nd half if his bench is in the offensive end.

I bet you're a big Chevy Chase fan!

Until the early 1990's the visiting team for both NFHS and NCAA rules choice which basket it would shoot at for the first half, and the NBA/WNBA rules just reflect this long time rule. But Moose's comments for the NFHS/NCAA change is correct. And for something competely different, under FIBA rules, the home team decides which basket the teams will shoot at in the first half as well as its bench for the entire game. Under NFHS/NCAA and NBA/WNBA rules, game management determines the team benches.

I was. Until he made "Nothing But Trouble". OMG, what a horrible movie. "Fletch" was probably his last good project. "Fletch 2" wasn't great, but it grows on you. "Memoirs of an Invisible Man" was better than I expected, but not one that I'd watch more than once. "Three Amigos"? Eh, a couple of funny moments, but not really a very good movie. At least we have "Fletch". Now go get me some ball bearings. Everything's ball bearings these days!

Fletch 2 is a very good movie, the third or fourth time you watch it. I liked nothing but trouble. Especially the Cameo by Humpty Hump.
Fletch and CaddyShack, can't beat them. Now I am off to get a Fresca.

You're right, everythings ball bearings...and put that Fresca on the Underhill's tab!
