Which Rule Books for new Official?
I am planning on becoming a new official this season and would like to ask what books I should purchase. I am looking at the NFHS site.
http://www.nfhs.com/index.asp?cmd=sh...ory¶m_0=62 I realize I should buy 2 and 3. What others would be appropriate for a new official? I have been a lurker for a couple of years now and finally decided to take the plunge. Anyone in Mass. have a suggestion on whom to contact to enroll in an officials course starting soon? I live on the south shore. I have sent emails to 2 sources found on the MIAA website listed as Board Contacts and hope to hear back from them as well. Thanks |
Hey Hoopguy. Welcome to the Forum. Glad you finally decided to jump in and put on the stripes. For books, I would go with the rule book, the case book, and the illustrated rule book. For a visual person (like I am), it helps to see a picture of a situation and I think it makes the actual rule easier to grasp sometimes.
For South Shore contacts, check your private messages. |
I am a big fan of the Rules by Topic book as well. It's nice to see each rule and its penalties all in one place.

Welcome. Jump on in and test the water....there's plenty of room!
May want to look at a book entitled "Basketball Rules, Simplified and Illustrated." You can find it online. Good luck and let us know how it goes! |

As for books...IAABO uses its own books. You will get those as part of the class. I would hold off buying books until the class starts. |
