Off-topic College Football Thread.

Well, the college football season started out with a mixed emotions game: the Youngstown State University Penguins vs. The Ohio State University Buckeyes in the Horseshoe. We Penguins fans would have liked to have seen more offense from our side of the scrimmage line be we are secure in knowing that both the Penguins and Buckeyes marches to the National Championship games are still intact.

Then we Penguins/Buckeyes fans got a big season opening weekend gift at about 07:00pmEDT when the University of Utan Utes visited the Big House and came away with a big win.

Rut, just remember, The Games that count for the rest of the regular season will be played on Saturday, November 22nd: the Penguins at Western Illinois University and the Buckeyes at the Big House.

You're right. It is off topic!!!!!!!:p

Didn't show up.

Did the Buckeyes get their travel plans mixed-up? They don't seem to know that there is a game at the LA Coliseum tonight.

I don't think it would have mattered if Beanie Wells had been 100%. USC was the better team tonight and I don't think that Ohio State is as good as they have been that last two years. They still have the makings of a Top-10 team and should be in the running for a Rose Bowl berth come Nov. 22nd.

Note to Rut: I just hope the Penguins are in the running for the playoffs come Nov. 22nd. :D

<i>"We wuz doin' good until the big kids got out of school."</i>:(

Eleventeen Beanie Wells won't help you when wander out of the Big 10 and play somebody other than the powderpuffs that you usually schedule.

Not to worry....you got that powerhouse Troy next week, followed by the Michigans of the world. With any luck, you'll still be playing in a Bowl.....on December 26.

I'll take wins over Maine, Florida International, and Iowa State.

You shoulda scheduled Ohio State and Michigan too. They both fit right in with that threesome.

You could be 5-0 and going to the Wattaburger Bowl.

Here in the Constitution State, I don't believe that we have any franchises. Then I thought that Jurassic Referee was making up the Bowl part, again to be funny, but after another internet search, sure enough, there really is, or was, a Whataburger Cactus Bowl, a Division II all-star game, however, it seems that it's now called the Valero Cactus Bowl.

I remember eating there in TX when I was spending my days in San Antonio. Between them and Jack-in-the-Box....

When the Big East can beat an ACC team, then I will get upset by what JR has to say. Look, I think Penn State scored again on Syracuse.

My gf told me that the Monster Burger at Hardee's (a US chain) has 1,420 calories and 108 grams of fat. The recommended daily maximum for fat is less than 50% of that value! I like those restaurants, but not as much as your health care system. Luckily, I don't go to those places anymore: I bet Denny's is just as bad, among many others.

You had me for a second, but I know Elics can't eat that much. I mean really, I think about 7 or 8 grains is all he can handle in one meal.

Just like Taco Bell and Jack in the Box in college. Much past midnight, nobody in those establishments were sober, inlcuding the cashiers. Good thing college students can be fed after midnight, unlike Gremlins.

I am right here. And if Michigan wins another game this year, I will be surprised. I said this while sitting in the Big House during the Wisconsin game. Unlike some here, I have perspective on the team and what they were going to do this year. You do not fill lose all your offensive play makers and play a QB that has never played a snap before this season, a RB that has never played, on offensive lineman that started before this season and numerous wide receivers that never played and expect to have success on offense. This does not include the fact that the players were not recruited to run this offense with a brand new coach that is not from the program. I am not a Cubs fan that gets excited about minimal accomplishments and brags about it. :p

Michigan is terrible and they make more headlines then any team from Nevada (I have no idea what Nevada did in any sport let alone football). I guess you are jealous. ;)

Peace

When I was a kid (in the 19th century) my friends and I used to go to Comiskey Park to see the White Sox. We'd stop at Carl's Red Hots on Stony Island Avenue ( I think they're still there) on the way there to pick up a bag of Vienna jumbo kosher dogs. They were boiled, then put on a steamed poppy seed roll. You could "drag it through the garden" which meant putting on virtually any kind of veggie you wanted plus you could choose from about five kinds of brown mustard. They'd put it on a piece of white butcher paper and pour a huge amount of hand cut fries right out of the hopper all over the dog then wrap it up. Here's the best part - 25 cents! The weird part was that they carried only Nedlog (golden spelled backwards was their slogan) non-carbonated pop. We wouldn't buy any but wait until we got to the ballpark to get a Coke.

Man - I miss those days.

BTW - anyone who put ketchup on a hot dog was drawn and quartered.

I only said I went to Carl's in the 19th century, not that I was born then. Actually, I was born 6000 years ago when dinosaurs roamed the earth. Sure they did. Just ask Sarah Palin.
