No, but they do get to play Utah. The talking heads on the 4-letter network where talking like an upset could happen a for a second year. I think that they just might be jumping on the ole bandwagon and dissing on your guys while they are slightly down.

BTW - you forgot to put "OT" in your subject line. Or...were you referring to their basketball programs? ;)

While Michigan Basketball did open their year with Ferris State, Radford, and Brown last yr, I couldn’t find any information on their early “warm-up” schedule for 08/09. :o

I did find the below note on their historical page however:

* -- Due to NCAA sanctions, the University of Michigan has vacated the records from the 1992 Final Four, the 1992/93, 95/96, 96/97, 97/98 and 98/99 seasons. Games affected are: 170 total games, 113-57 overall games, 50-36 Big Ten, 7-4 NCAA, 5-0 NIT and 4-1 Big Ten Tournament. It also reflects vacating the 1992 Final Four appearance; the 19997 NIT Championship; 1993, 1996 and 1998 NCAA tournament appearances; and the 1998 Big Ten Tournament championship.

And this note with Chris Webber*:

* an italic text indicates individual player records, awards and other honors that have been vacated by the University of Michigan due to NCAA and U-M sanctions.

PS - Maybe I should post this on the Baseball Forum (OT of course) or send it to the Baseball HoF to show them how it might be done in the future......

Wow, that joke never gets old. Tell Illinois and Notre Dame what was the score when they played Michigan last year? Just curious. ;)

Peace

With all due respect Gordon, I do not care about a game that happened last year. I am more concerned about the Utah game and a new offense and scheme and the fact we do not have a QB. Michigan has had still has the most wins than any other program in the country. I do not care about one game that meant nothing in the bigger picture. Michigan did not lose the Big Ten Title as a result of that game and certainly did not lose their Bowl Game against and SEC team or to a Heisman Trophy Winner. And we beat a team in their home state during that Bowl game. I was much more disappointed by losing to OSU than a team that actually won a National Championship last year. ;)

Peace

And in a related note, two athletic directors were seriously injured today. Apparently, there was a stampede of AD's hurrying to try to get Michigan lined up as their first opponent for the next few seasons. :)

And the lead AD in this stampede is Youngstown State University's AD. :D

Couldn't schedule Appy State. They were too busy being violated by LSU.

869 Total Wins
11 National Championships
42 Big Ten Titles (more than anyone)
3 Heisman Trophy Winners.

And I believe Michigan had not lost two games on opening day since 1951-1952.

And I cannot think of the last time Michigan has not been in a bowl game (longest running current streak in the country BTW) and I recall a team from Florida got beat last January by the same team we are talking about (SEC Team right).

I will take two loses any day and have that history.

Peace

While this meant something at one point, it doesn't anymore. Bowl games are for revenue only. With the number of bowl games out there, being selected to a bowl game has lost it's hoopla. Unless it's for the NC of course. I might even say that the Rose, Fiesta, Tostitos - you know, the "big 4 (5?)" games are worthy, but that's it - but even those are less worthy.

Let me say this, Michigan does not play in a lot of "Wheateater Poinsettia Bowl" games. They mostly play on January 1 or later.

Once again, I will take the history and tradition of Michigan than anyone else in the Big Ten or even recent history of Ohio State. At least Michigan can beat SEC teams on a regular basis in bowl games. When this happens to many other teams across the country no one cares. In 1999 and 2000 the great USC did not even go to bowl games before their big run at National Championships. I would rather go to bowls and qualify for bowl games, then have a winless season like Illinois did just a few years ago.

Peace
