Count the basket (2 or 3). Two shots and the ball near the spot of the foul.

Tio Thu Aug 28, 2008 11:48am

Score the basket. Award 2 shots and the ball out of bounds to the offended team at the spot closest to the foul.

NF & NCAA - Count the basket. Two shots and the ball near the spot of the foul.

FIBA - Count the basket (2 or 3). One shot only, ball goes to the division line.

I know a prison guard, and he tells me it's done multiple times daily.

I think it should be pointed out that in almost all situations in NFHS when an Intentional Foul is called you will shoot 2 shots. The ONLY exception is when a 3-point shooter is intentionally fouled and the try is unsuccessful and then you will shoot 3 shots. I have never seen the possibility of a 4 or 5 point play in my experience. Anyone else?

Yes...last season in a non-league Boys HS Varsity game. Team B getting crushed, opponents running up score...going for 100. Both teams were still playing ball, however. 98 to thirty something. team B has the ball with under a minute to go when they take a timeout. Their goal is to prevent the other team from making 100....the come out in a stall. Team A is pursuing the ball but team B is doing a decent job of keep away until A3 picks off a pass at the top of the key for fast break with about 20 seconds left. B1 chases him down and lays a pretty good football block in the back just as A3 releases the layup. A3, who I think was the coach's son, didn't get up for several minutes. He did get up and walk off but he was going to be sore for a couple of days.

...and not one word from either coach about anything.

First, welcome to the board. Glad you found us here. Second, how does it feel to be on the political map? :)

Third, I've never seen a 4- or 5-point play result from an intentional foul, but I see a foul on a successful 3-point try once or twice a season, making a potential 4-point play.
