By the way. I just want to compliment all those on this board for your professionalism in keeping the discussion
centered on refereeing and how we can all improve. (mostly);)
If you have checked the "other" board lately, it's become a bad joke!
Keep up the good work.

mick Thu Apr 25, 2002 08:44am

agreed.

Drake,
yeah.
I do this thing for fun.
If it ain't fun I won't.
The "other" isn't fun.

It's unfortunate, but I agree. I still look in and read some of the threads, if they seem interesting, but I don't spend much time there. Additionally, I never mention this board when I post on that one. It's very sad, actually. I found McGriff's board a long time ago and I learned a lot over there. But it's degenerated badly.

It's like they're the House of Representatives and this board is the Senate. A little more subdued debate over here.

Hoosier Thu Apr 25, 2002 09:39am

Chuck, I'm glad you haven't mentioned this board over there. I don't want this one to degenerate to what that one has become. I've only been there a couple of times, but wasn't impressed at all.

zebraman Thu Apr 25, 2002 12:20pm

Actually, that "other board" is very good during the winter basketball season. It's just during the slow times that it degenerates into a slugfest. Lest we get too smug, there are a couple of "regulars" on this board that have contributed to the degeneration of that other one too.

I resemble that.

Mick,

Your contributions are good on both boards. I hate to burst your bubble, but you aren't contributing to any degeneration. :-) You are going to have to work harder.

You guys are all correct. I stopped posting on that board months ago when it became even more juvenile.

That's what happens when people can post without registering.

If you, or I, leave anywhere, the place we left, by definition, becomes more juvenile.

Before you jump on Mick for sounding arrogant, he was not referring to wisdom, but age. I, for one, was born before dirt was invented.

What's a "BobMyKnob"?

Camron Rust Thu Apr 25, 2002 06:54pm

I too agree that this one has a much higher level of conversation. I just like the simple format of the other one. This one is a little harder to follow.

zebraman Thu Apr 25, 2002 06:57pm

"Bob" is a new addition to that board who is very sarcastic in his replies. Many of them are pretty amusing, but it's getting others kinda fired up. Jennifer seems innocent and able to handle herself just fine. Rut has disappeared lately which makes for a lot less arguments and "sticks and stones" stuff. It'll all be fine when fall rolls around.

I do not think I my "presense" :) has anything to do with the fights on that board at all. It is easier for folks to hide their true identity and hide behind fake names and thoughts when they do not agree with you.

Do not blame me for anything, arguments were going on way before I showed up.

The problem with the "other" board and this board is that people worry about what people think that they will never meet in their entire life. It is a "discussion" board, you should expect some disagreement and debates. The problem is that people like yourself take it personally. I am just debating. That happens on the internet. ;)

Peace

I might remind my esteemed colleague from the great state
(commonwealth?) of Massachusettes that what happens on the
other board is typical of a mostly unmoderated internet
discussion board. And, with all due respect, I think
you'll agree that things turn to sh1t over there every year
about this time.

Well, I am Jennifer... originally from the other board. All I can really say is, "Never take yourself too seriously." I can always laugh, and Im glad for that. I am a good person, and if you stick around you will find that out. Thank you to the 3 of you who turned me on to this board.

Wasn't trying to "blame you" Rut, just making an observation. There are always going to be debates and those are great...when they are about basketball situations. However, it's too bad when they deteriorate into 15-post threads and get personal. IMHO, that takes the productivity (and the enjoyment) out of it for a lot of people. That's all.

Mark Padgett Fri Apr 26, 2002 12:18am

Seriously, what's so funny about me asking that question? I really don't get it.

Note to "Jennifer". Are you really former television actor Jimmy "JJ" Walker? If you are - DYNO - MITE!!!

JRutledge Fri Apr 26, 2002 01:57am

It sure seemed like it to me.

I have been on both boards for about the same length of time that I have been officiating. The things that go on there is no different than they always have been.

For you information I have a home computer/labtop and I log on both several times a day when I have some time. I do not think I have anything to do with what goes on there or here for that matter. Kind of hard when you post on probably less than 10% of all post made.

But then again if people would treat the boards for what they are really worth, there might not be any conflict at all. The word "discussion" does not mean "agreement." ;)

Interesting. I find it to be the other way around. I have never posted on the other board, but I sometimes find it hard to follow the thread. Maybe I am just older than Padgett, Mick, and JR.

Mark, from time to time, posts appear on the McGriff board that have a very familiar humor to them. Some think that you sometimes post under such a moniker as BobMyKnob. Do you? :)

I took a look at the McGriff board and read a lot of his posts. While I will admit I thought some of them were pretty funny, and some of them even were similar to my "style of humor", I found a lot of them to be mean-spirited (unless he is better at sarcasm than I think he is) and there is some merit in some (notice I said some) of the responses from others, although many of the responses were much more juvenile than his posts.

Besides, why would I post under a different name? I'm proud of my humor, although my wife tells the rest of the family not to encourage me.

BTW - giving credit where credit is due - his post about Jennifer's marriage was one of the funniest I've ever read anywhere.

It's also nice to know there are people on these boards who have a sense of humor and realize when someone is posting something just to try to be funny and doesn't mean it as an attack. I think the world would be a better place if we would all just lighten up a little.

OK - enough phoney crap for one day.
