Inbound after made hoop & net is tangled

High school basketball situation: A1 scores (swishes) a basket. The net is tangled on the rim. It does not appear tangled so much that the net won't come down with a touch or on the next shot. The ball is not at B's disposal yet for the throw-in. Should the ref blow the whistle and stop play to allow somebody to untangle the net or let 'em play on?
If the whistle is blown then B might be at a disadvantage because A will have more time to set up their press.
What's your decision?

(2 whistle) The T should be cognizant of the net & put air in the whistle before transitioning to new L.

(3 whistle) I'd like to think the C should get it.

NOTE:
Remember to beckon the subs as well since it's a dead ball (if applicable)

Most officials will play on. Some areas may be different, however.

This is a game-interrupter, imvho. Let the play go to keep the flow and momentum where it is deserved: with the players.

I was at Phil Bova's camp in '99 and it was there that I first heard of killing the play to fix the "swish". Sure, I did that mechanic for the rest of the tournament, then quickly forgot it on the way home. $0.02

I really hate to reference old interpretations. But here it goes.

For what it is worth, the NF said that if the net gets caught the first time, you might take care of it by stopping play. If it becomes a constant issue, then to leave it alone and not constantly stop play to correct the net. The NF also said that that game management should make sure this is not a problem or have the correct size net. Now that ruling was from 2003 or 2004 Basketball Guidebook. I really do not feel like looking it up as to which one it was in.

Peace

Plenty of threads on this. See the bottom of the page.

It doesn't matter if one net is tighter than the other.

Call it both ways.

Let the players decide the game.

He didn't. It's automatic and has been there a long time. The software that runs the board does some analysis of words in various threads and looks from those with a higher commonality of words vs. other threads....similar to Google's "Similar Pages" link that appears by each item returned in a search listing.

Most? I'd say that most kill it and fix it.

Please show me in the current rules book where it says how to deal with this.

Why do you care what the NFHS says about the situation?

:D

I honestly don't care. I just passing on information that might help someone sleep at night. This is another issue that officials spend too much time worrying about. It does not happen very often or often enough that I am worried either way.

Peace

You mean you are going to make an old man like me climb up into the attic to find a rule interpretation. :D

Your reference to 2003 or 2004 is correct. I will go one step further. On more than occasion prior to 2000 when officiating in YBOA boys' or girls' or AAU boys' national championships in Florida I have been told by FloridaHSAA officials that the FloridaHSAA have issued instructions based upon NFHS rulings that the officials are to wait until when play causes the clock to be stopped, and then fix the net. I have been officiating basketball since 1971, but I have talked with basketball officiating friends who have been officiating at least then (10) years longer than I have who are sure that the NBCUSC issued interpretations in the late 1950's and early 1960's that contained the same information that I had officials in Florida tell me. I know that the NCAA has issused some ruling that pertains to Div. I games about having a ball boy or some such person fix the net when the teams go to the other end of the court, but that ruling came out about the same time the NFHS came out with its ruling in 2003 or 2004.
