What's the difference? I'd say 9 out of every 10 questions that someone comes on here and asks about, gets about 20 stupid replies from the same people and the question never gets answered.

Um, so what was your intellegent contribution to this topic, and what was your answer to the question again?

We have people all over the world here (literally). It is not a crime in ever country and personally the attitude about fighting animals might not be my bag, but the overreaction to it all the time is in my opinion misplaced. I wish human beings would be more concerned with human beings than animals. JMHO.

I agree that there is often an overreaction to animal abuse stories, but I don't think that happened here. I merely -- and calmly -- asked why he would post such a picture on this website. And although cockfighting is not a crime all over the world, it is a felony in every state of the US that I know of, including Oregon, where Mark lives. Hopefully, I am not overreacting by simply stating again that such pictures are inappropriate to this site. I won't be insulted if you disagree, but that's my feeling.

I agree with this as well.

Scrappy,

We are not talking about child porn here. This is a picture of an event that in some jurisdictions was and still is legal in parts of the country. If Cockfighting is illegal now, it certainly was not always illegal. It is a picture to make a joke. Next thing you are going to tell me if someone shows a picture of someone smoking a cigarette is inappropriate if the person smoking is in a bar. In my state and in many others this activity would be illegal right now, but a few months ago was completely legal.

All I am saying this is a picture. It is a picture that is making a joke. And considering all the other pictures I have found much more objectionable here this does not show anything other than a possible "illegal activity." I know it was legal at one time in a certain state in the south because a famous boxer was involved in an interview.

Peace

Everything you say is true. And yet it does not change the fact that Mark's post was neither funny nor appropriate to this forum.

Last time I checked, I'm entitled to hold an opinion and voice it.

Just not entitled to have someone listen to it or care. :D

For what it is worth...I agree with your position. I thought the picture was inappropriate.

I agree, even if the opinion that is held is stoopid.

I haven't talked with my two friends (yes, I have friends, :D ) who officiates in the WNBA, but from other conversations that I have had with them in the past, that except for some differences in playing rules, the conduct rules are the same no matter whether you are a male or female player.

Let me count the number of inappropriate topics on this forum. We could start with the baseball thread. This is basketball!

Some people enjoy that baseball thread, personally I don't care because I gave up on baseball a long time ago. Others here enjoy it as evidenced by the large number of viewers and posts. I choose to avoid it rather than be offended or start complaining that it is not germain to this particular forum.

BTW, almost every topic on this forum gets hijacked in some form or another during its lifetime with various jokes and pictures, yet no one gets bent about it.

I didn't see your complaint about the porn link that was posted here yesterday. That was very inappropriate. So you are offended by a chicken that might have been fighting but not of some pictures that demean young women (someone's daughter). That was clearly not a joke.

I applaud you on your righteous indignation.

In the United States, cockfighting is illegal in Washington, D.C. and in all states but Louisiana. On 27 June 2007, the Louisiana legislature voted to ban cockfighting in the state. The ban will take effect in August 2008. It is legal in the United States Territories of Puerto Rico, the Virgin Islands and Guam. Thirty-three states and the District of Columbia have made cockfighting a felony. It is illegal in 40 states and D.C. to be a spectator at cockfights.

Is baseball now a felony? Are there pictures in that thread depicting actual crimes being committed?

The reason I didn't comment on that link is that I knew it would be deleted very quickly by a moderator.

I'm not trying to make a federal case out of this and I'm not even indignant. I just think it was unfunny and inappropriate. And again, nothing you said in your post changes that fact.

I'm going to stop responding in this thread now, because I've made my one little point and I don't want to get drawn into a protracted debate about it.
